Another rainy day tomorrow. DD likes gluing stuff and painting - been doing a lot of this lately, need some fresh ideas

Today me and dd have:

splashed in muddy puddles

done playdough at the table instead of on the floor - for some reason this made her play with it for ages.

washing up

dusting

tried on all our winter hats and scarves and washed them ready Sad

She is, by now, totally bored of her toys and just wants to do thngs with me.

Recently we have decorated a million biscuits

Played with a bowl of rice with bowls and spoons etc ditto with shaving foam

given her the radio to tune

given her some slidey plastic sheets to skid around on

umm...I'll have a think...

But mainly I'm on the thread for ideas myself!

Rice and lentils in a big tray with cups, jugs, funnels, paint brushes and spoons.

decorate plant pots and plant some seeds, even if it's just cress or lettuce.

cooking/biscuit making/muffin making?

playdough, no need to buy any, look online for great easy to make at home playdough.

games, like hungry hippos, pairs, the one (i forget its name where you put 10 items on a tray, then cove with a teatowel and take one away, dd has to guess which one is missing), kerplunk.

Lego

Den building

Picnics, with toy food and teddies.

Doctors/hospitals with dolls. Kitchen towel bandages and cheap plasters, cotton wool dipped in water to soothe.

make paper boats and have an early bath to play with them.

stand her at kitchen sink with towel on floor, lots of bubbly water, clothes and pits to fill and pour.

put on full waterproofs and wellies (both of you) and go puddle jumping, or find a stream to splash about in.

teach her dancng - lttle routines, to wither childrens songs, i'm a little teapot eetc, or adult songs, blame it on the boogie, night fever, reach for the stars.

dressing up.

cutting (dd loves cutting, and quickly learnt how to get control of the scissors)

Book reading

Movies and popcorn (dd loves jungle book snow white and nemo)

beads and string, or paint pasta and then thread onto string.

latrucha, looks like we have spent similar days Grin

latrucha · 25/08/2010 19:13

Pretty similar! I'll be doing the threading thing, tomorrow though! I wish DD would watch a whole movie. Smile

I should also add TV and lots of it!

Cutting pictures out of magazines and catalogues to make your own books

Making people out of toilet rolls - old pop sock stuffed with cotton wool for head and pipe cleaners as arms and legs. Colour and decorate (or in dd1's case, just stick lots more glue and sellotape all over!)

Washing up all plastic plates cutlery etc with loads of bubbles

Make a den by putting a big sheet over a table and having a little tea party inside

Making cakes/chocolate crispy cakes etc

pinata · 25/08/2010 19:46

All of the above, plus:

We have just decorated a special box to keep all dd's best drawings in. ie stuck stickers all over a platic storage box

marbles get my vote too - group by colour, pick favourite, get a certain number, try to throw them into a suitable receptacle etc

balloons - blow them up and let them go before tying a knot in them, stick faces on them, play catch

elnmummy · 26/08/2010 22:55

Cornflour & water in a tray - mixes like a liquid but you pick it up in fist seems to go solid then open your hand and it goes liquid again!

Fascinates my 2 - stripped down to knickers/nappy only with lots of plastic on the floor lol! Add food colouring, use spoons & cups - they play for hours!

DysonDad · 26/08/2010 23:52

einmummy that's always great fun! It even has a name: Oobleck

Chunkamatic · 27/08/2010 22:34

Please can someone explain the cornflour thing to me? I've seen it mentioned a few times... Do you mix it together? If so, in what ratio? Is it as mind-bending as you make it sound elnmummy?!?

latrucha · 01/09/2010 09:59

I never measure it. Just mix cornflour and water. You may need to mix it first as it can be a bit stiff. Fun, fun, fun!

kreecherlivesupstairs · 01/09/2010 10:25

My dd at that age loved putting paper clips together to make a chainConfused, she would sit for hours and make long long long lenghts of paperclip necklaces. She also loved to swim and play with sand.
