Newborn and student housemate - is it possible?

Two of our friends have a massive house, and are thinking of renting some of their spare rooms out. Financially and space-wise, it would normally make sense for DP and I to move in with them.

But,

One of them is going to start doing a Masters, just as we're due to have a newborn. We'd be on the floor above them. Is it even remotely feasible, or am I overly hopeful to even consider it?

Another friend said he didn't think they'd want 'a screaming baby around while trying to concentrate'... am I being too optimistic in doubting it'll spend that much time actually screaming? The friends in question don't seem sure one way or the other, and I don't know whether to try to reassure them or whether that would end up as being misleading.

To give more information, the baby will be sleeping in our room next to the bed, I intend to breastfeed if at all possible, and will spend a lot of time with him/her in a sling, all of which I'm hoping will contribute to calmness.

Honestly, I don't think it's a good idea at all. Trying to keep the baby quiet so you don't annoy the housemates is going to so stressful I doubt it's worth it. I just know that if it was me I'd be unable to feel at home and would just end up worrying about the housemates when what you should be thinking about is your baby. Good luck though whatever you decide to do, hope it works out :)

If your friends aren't sure, I don't think you should try to reassure them, as it may turn out to be false reassurance! Babies vary so much that you can never guarantee in advance that a baby won't do lots of loud crying, whatever your sleeping or feeding arrangements.
