moving to a new area - nervous about the whole thing

DS is due to start school next September and i really don't want him to go to school where we live at the moment, I want him to go to a small friendly school for his first school. So we are going to make a move and find a nice school in a new area and move there. I feel like i'm ready to try a new area but just really nervous about starting out again and having to make new friends for him and me again. I'm pretty outgoing and have made a nice circle of friends with babies round here but am just finding it really daunting to have to start from scratch again - just kind of wanting to hear positive stories about other people who have moved and started again etc!

I've done exactly what you are describing in the last year and its hard but because we had a good reason to move its been worth it.

I still don't have 'friends' here, but have made friendly acquaintances at baby groups etc.

My main problem is that most mums seem to be in already established friendship groups, like I was before, but its ok I've just realised that I won't make new friends overnight, it'll take time.

Goodluck if you decide to move.

I moved fairly recently and have made lots of new friends, if you go with a really positive attitude and make a big effort it can be so worthwhile - it is lovely to make new friends without all the 'baggage' that your old friends knew - hard to explain really but I used to do loads of voluntary work and wonder if people only 'liked' me because I got involved in stuff - now I have made friends just because people seem to want to get to know me - its great Smile.
