Those of you who did NOT take the dummy off the child, when did they lose it?

dd is almost 3, and I have absolutely no intention of removing her dummy from her (she only has it at nighttime)

out of curiosity, how/when did your dc ditch the dummy?

2y 11m for my DS1 - we were going out in the car and I told him to go fetch it from his bed and he refused, so I told him if he didn't get it we'd go without it. We went without it. Never looked back. Grin He had had to have it EVERY time for a nap/bedtime but once he went that one nap in the car without it he wasn't bothered by having it or not so they all quietly got put in the bin.

My DS1 is 2y 9m and shows no signs of dropping it and I'm not going to hurry him along.

Mine just handed it over at 18 months and said, 'don't want'. Never asked for it again!

Around 3 I think, he made the decision.

One of my DD's was 3 1/2. SHe bit holes in them and I didn't replace - she was fine with it.

I was fed up with seing them at the side of my 3 yr olds bed so did a deal with her. She got to pick the barbie doll of her choice and she handed a little bag of dummies to the assistant in Toysrus(together with a fiver from me !)

Probably a bit of an easy way out but saved tears and generally accepted well.

Bribery and corruption to get rid off dd1 daytime use of dummy, she was about 3 1/2. But she used one at night till she was 4 years and 5 mos Shock. She declared one evening she wanted them in the bin. Didn't look back but started needing someone to sit in room till she went to sleep.

Now 6 yrs and 3 mos and still needs me or dh to sit with her till asleep.

Never used a dummy with dd2 but she's a thumb sucker.

My ds was 3 and he left it out for santa with carrots etc and in the morning it was away and in its place were loads of presents! Getting him to sleep on Xmas Eve was hard but he never looked back.
