Anyone let their kids go to bed with wet hair after a bath?

We have always done this. Daughter hates the hairdryer so we towel dry it then she goes to bed.

Husbands Nan was round the other night and had a fit because we did this and sat patiently drying her hair with a towel whilst reading them stories.

Yes, we always do this. My mum always let me go to bed with wet hair too - I think this was mainly to annoy my grandma who was sure I'd catch my death of cold!

StealthPolarBear · 22/08/2010 20:21

well DCs get theirs towel dried - wouldn't dream of using a hairdrier. But their haie is mostly dry - otherwise the pillow would be wet. Their hair is so fine it dries in no time if it's had a good towellng

I told a school friend that's how you get herpes.

Yes, I do this too.
Your nan-in-law sounds very sweet but I don't think damp hair in bed is a health hazard and life is too short.

ruddynorah · 22/08/2010 20:24

yes.

southeastastra · 22/08/2010 20:27

no cause it would end up like a matted brillo pad

OnEdge · 22/08/2010 20:30

I might just put a towel on her pillow thinking about it.

I always leave it wet. MIL dries their hair if she gets a chance Grin.

southeastastra · 22/08/2010 20:37

also they'll get a cold

Meglet · 22/08/2010 20:37

I towel dry it and by the time we have read stories it's just a bit damp. We have a warm house so I don't worry about it.

Blasting them with a hairdryer would end in tears.

TrillianAstra · 22/08/2010 20:39

Matted brillo pad is true - unless you tie it up or make a loose-ish plait.

No reason why you'd get a cold. Unless maybe you live ina very draughty house, enough that the wet hair+cold would adversely affect their immune systems. We're talking very very draughty here.

Nans in general are the 'old wives' in 'old wives tale'.

I thought this was a hangover from when bedrooms were freezing because the only heat source was in the kitchen/front room?

DS sometimes goes to bed with damp hair, depends how many stories I have to read to him before he'll settle down!

TrillianAstra · 22/08/2010 20:44

Ah yes, if your house is heated only by a fireplace in the front room (or perhaps and aga in the kitchen) then it migh tbe a little uncomfortable.

Lotkinsgonecurly · 22/08/2010 20:45

Ours go with dampish hair. But again their hair is so fine it dries really quickly.

Ponders · 22/08/2010 20:45

towel-dried but still damp, yes, always.

(when I was little a granny-type neighbour told me if I sat on a damp wall I'd get worms Shock)

orienteerer · 22/08/2010 20:46

errr...yes. DS has hair towel dried but then watches TV for 45 mins or so before bed. He wouldn't let me get a hairdryer near him even if I wanted to.

Lulumaam · 22/08/2010 20:47

as DDs hair has got longer, i find it far easier to cope with if it is washed and conditioned, combed and then i plait it whilst wet. in teh morning she has crinkly hair that is far easier to deal with than her usual birds nest of almost waist length tangles.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 22/08/2010 20:49

The odd thing is that DD, whose hair will coalesce into one huge tangle the moment anyone mentions the word "wind" or she sees anything sticky, can go to bed with wet hair, wriggle about all night, and still wake up with perfect tangle-free locks.

Although, again, both DCs (well, the whole family) have very fine hair so that it dries by itself pretty darn quickly.

southeastastra · 22/08/2010 20:49

no wonder our teenagers are so obsessed with hairstyles, they're hairdryer deprived

whydobirdssuddenlyappear · 22/08/2010 20:56

I usually put DD to bed with damp hair, although I sometimes blow-dry it if she's up for it, because it's getting so long that it'll make her pillow soggy if just towel-dried. But I have a really cool, slow setting on my hairdryer.
DS has short hair that's dry by the time he's read a million books about volcanoes and built a glacier with Lego whilst he's supposed to be going to sleep Grin

I do - damp but not wet

However if I do the same myself I end up looking like crystal tipps

Fennel · 22/08/2010 21:04

We've always done this. they wake up with matted brillopad hair anyway, however much it's been brushed or dried the evening before. and they don't get colds really.

if it's really wet or you're feeling extra lazy you can stick a towel over the pillow to soak it up.
