getting rid of the pram - at what age?

I mean what age of DC obviously Grin. DS is 3.6yo, DD is 16mo. We got a Phil& Ted's when DD was a few months old, as I do a fair amount of walking with them - actually, strike that, I used to do a lot of walking, till DS got to the stage of having an opinion Hmm. With DS we had a 3-wheeler, which we've still got. Thing is, we're hardly using the P&T now - I work 3 days a week, so long leisurely walks are a thing of the past, inbetween housework etc. on my days off. We live a mile away from a coastal walk, so it's too long for DS to walk down there and then also expect him to walk any distance once there.

If we go out on the weekend, we mainly take the pram just for DD and DS walks anyway, especially if round the shops/to the park.

  • Basically we don't do any long walks anymore, will I regret getting rid of the P&T now, or has the time come??? - I'd like to sell it whilst it's still in good condition, as it's as good as new. DS looks too old in the pram now anyway, but is still quite attached to getting in it, due to DD going in it.

I've waffled, sorry, but just wondering what's an average age? - obviously we'd still have the other 3-wheeler for DD anyway.

I have only just got rid of DS's pram and he was 5 last May.

My sitaution may be alittle different, but my DS has short tendons in the back of his ankles and walking long distances can be painful for him. He has physio now and its a lot better, hence why I got rid of the pram.

I have a fold-away buggy that I have kept, but generally just use that for my Nephew. He's nearly 3, but likes to do a runner, so when I take them both out, Nephew has to go in the buggy.

If you have still got 2 prams/buggy's then why not sell one and buy a buggy board?

We've gt a p&t and a 3.8dc and 1.10 dc. elder will not use pram, and dc2 hops in and out, so i don't use the p&t, just a buggy, whereas dh won't be seen using a buggy and uses p&t with back seat for holding shopping! he is so lazy! really we could be well shut of it by now!

with ds I got rid of the pram when he was 2 1/2, dd was 3 although it hadn't been used for a few months. I kept it just in case with her as she is asthmatic and suffers from chest infections through winter, ds was going to a school over a mile from home so sometimes she wasn't well enough to walk there and back twice a day. Whereas when she was well she could. Once he started to walk himself to school and back I got rid of her pram.

DD1 is nearly 3 and hasn't used a buggy in ages. I deliberated about getting a P&T when DD2 was born (5 months ago) and am very pleased I didn't as there is no way DD1 would have used it and it would have been a complete waste of money. I figure if DD1 can run about like a total maniac when she's playing with her friends, then she can walk around the shops for half an hour.

Dd1 was 3yr 2mth (after the birth of dd2)

Dd2 was around 2 and 1/2. Fiercly independant and refused point blank to go in it.

Dd3 was just over 2 and 1/2 - she got a balance bike for Christmas and goes everywhere on that instead

Would your ds use a balance bike or scooter instead of the pram?

In your situation I'd probably get rid of the P&T. I use ours, but ONLY to walk them to nursery. (3. 5 and 9 months). Otherwise I wouldnt - its too much hassle to get in the car boot and DS walks anyway. Day trips etc we never use the P&T
If he's REALLY knackered for whatever reason, and this is rare - I either put him in the foldup buggy (silver cross pop) and carry DS2 or I attach the strolli to the buggy (like a bike seat for a pram - I didnt like the buggy board idea)

DD1 hasn't sat in a buggy since just before DD2 was born 12 weeks ago.

DD1 (2 last month) wasnt using the buggy much and prefered to be out walking so decided to try without a double buggy and so far shes been fine. We have a buggy board she hops on it she wants to or if its busy/crossing roads.
I made an effort of doing more walking with her for a few months before DD2 arrived to get her used to walking more distances. She had been walking since 11mths so very confident anyway.

Id say if you dont use it anymore then sell it and just get a buggyboard for him to jump on if he does get tired when your out.

Theres no set age as i think it all depends on your situation and how strong a walker your DC is.
