Reusable nappies - when to start using & how many will I need

Pregnant with first baby and am planning to use reusables.

Anyone got any suggestions re:

  • When I should start using (e.g. from day 1 or wait a few weeks? Prob dependent on size of baby but any advice is helpful)?
  • How many nappies I need?

Thanks!

I'm not an expert by any means as only just started using them myself.

I was recommended motherease nappies and wraps as they are supposedly bomb proof against bf poo.

I went for the onesize version as I have a toddler who I've started putting in cloth.

Wraps- I bought a few motherease airflow in different sizes as I've been told these are the best, a few tots bots fleece wraps in different sizes and I bought some tots bots rainbow wraps for my toddler because, well, they are funky lol.

I've also got 7 tots bots easyfits (all in one birth to potty) but these are mainly for daddy to use as they go on exactly like a disposable.

I've been told the moherease are quite bulky on a newborn so after the first couple of day's in disposables for the sticky tar poo, I'll be using a folded muslin with nappi nippa and wrap until he's big enough to go in the motherease.

You'll be amazed at how excited I was about receiving the nappies lol.

Oh and I've got 20 of the motherease nappies and 7 tots bots to use on two. (will probably pick up a few more along the way) and a black bag full of muslins.

Wraps, I have 3 motherease in each size, 2 fleece in each size and 5 of the tots bots rainbow wraps.

I'm hopin this will be enough. Confused

I've used disposables on both dcs. You can use them from birth though I would use disposables in hospital and until the black meconium poo is all gone.

I didn't like motherease one size as they are massive and I have small babies. I have used bumbles as a birth to potty as they have a bit that can be removed for newborns so they fit at every stage and are the only nappy I know of which does this. Also brill with newborn poo. There are also some good sized nappies but obviously you have to buy more.

For newborn you need at least 18, for older baby/toddler you need about 12. Plus 4 wraps in each size (you can muddle by with 3 but it's a real pain sometimes) Motherease airflow wraps are sadly the best despite not being the cutest!

I used them from day 2 with DD2 (hospital had a no washables policy) , i used muslins with a nippa and and nature babies wrap for first 2 weeks then switchen to tots bots bamboozles on a night and bumgenius throught the day. My baby was nearly 9lbs though. If your baby is smaller you may wish to use bamboozles, muslins or similar for a bit longer. I managed with about 15 but you may need upto 18-20 just incase.
