Floor mat for 7 m.o.?

My 7 m.o. DS is rolling and sitting (although he still falls over relatively frequently). He spends a lot of time happily playing on our kitchen floor while I MN do housework. It's a hard stone floor so I have one of these foam mats down to stop him bashing his head.

Looking at it in the shop it says from age 3+ and I can see why - DS is always pulling up the tiles to chew them and it's becoming a bit of a hazard.

What can I use as an alternative, or should I just be less pfb and let him roll around on the tiles?

We have had a similar mat on our laminate floor since DS was 6ish mths. I would stop worrying about if if I were you. Much less of a hazard than a hard floor IMO!

I have one on our tiles, ds 9mo. I thought it was just some of the Middles that were a choke hazard, in letter A mainly. So I just took that bit out...

We used something similar on the wooden floor when DD was this age. When she started pulling it apart I just took the littlest bits out - the ones I thought might be dangerous, like in the middle of the A and that kind of thing. I never had any problem after that. She'd still pull bits out but just throw them around or use the 8 as glasses.

i managed to get a lovely taf toys baby rug at an nct sale thats big and padded for £4 and its fab.

before that for dc1 i had a single duvet with a bright kids duvet cover on it. that did the same job until the dog adopted it.

We've got this one from Ikea, it's really nice.

Or you could just put a blanket or throw over top of the one you have for now?

AngelDog · 19/08/2010 18:55

SqueezyB, I'd not thought of that. Blush I'll give it a go.

Thanks everyone else, small bits duly taken out. I think I just need to make sure I don't leave him on it unsupervised while I'm in another part of the house.

The other day I turned round and there was no baby - just a mat with a big bulge underneath it. Grin
