and I had to tell him The Truth. Aw. First bit of magic revealed. My baby's not a baby any more! (Well, he's seven, but YKWIM.)

Actually went better than I'd expected - having done all the havering about 'what do YOU think?' when I confessed he was OK. Said it was still magic but even more special now he knows Mummy and Daddy make all the special things happen. Bless him.

Still put his tooth under his pillow though - complete with letter he'd written to the Tooth Fairy earlier asking how old she is and what her name is. I asked whether he still wanted it and he said 'yes, I want to see what ideas you have'. Grin

Aww bless him.

Awww, my eldest dd blew apart all the magic characters really young, she's far too clever by half that one.

My youngest is now eleven, and as far as I know she still believes in the tooth fairy and father christmas. I'm beginning to wonder if I should tell her before she gets bullied at school, she's starting at secondary soon!

My DS never believed in the tooth fairy, but did believe that some kind of reaction happened to change teeth into money under the pillow. All his own imagination.

My DS was petrified at the thought that there was a fairy sneaking into his room at night, ditto the easter bunny and Santa. We had to tell him fairly early on that it was makebelieve. Unfortunately he has gotten us into trouble by telling his little cousins.

I like that kind of thinking, mummytime!

Ds was jolly pleased this morning that Mummy & Daddy had carried on playing the Tooth Fairy and left £1 and a reply to his note under his pillow. Grin And he's jolly proud that he's now a big boy who is in on the secret and responsible for keeping the magic alive for younger children by Not Telling.

Tricky isn't it? I made the decision to confirm my DD's suspicions last year when she was eight. `Her friend had told her the truth and she asked me, I did the same 'what do you think?' routine and she said she thought it was unlikely. She seemed relieved TBH, this year I have pierced the bubble of father Christmas. She is 9.3 and extremely naive. I didn't want her new classmates ripping the piss out of her in December. That was much more traumatic.

edam · 18/08/2010 11:38

Yes, I'm anticipating further questions about that but relieved he seemed quite happy re. the Tooth Fairy so hopefully that one will go well too!

Christmas was still special to me even though I'd worked out the mechanics very early on (and told my then 3yo sister). I still enjoyed leaving mince pies out and all that stuff.

When DS was four he told me confidently that the tooth fairy wasn't real (I had no idea that he'd even heard of the tooth fairy at that point). Now he is five and has started losing teeth he has miraculously rediscovered his faith... Hmm

TheMoonOnAStick · 18/08/2010 11:54

Oh I just go all vague...although I think maybe I have been sussedSad Certainly dd's are onto to it but I'm not saying anything outright because ds is still a big believer (he's nearly 9).

I'm in the tricky postiton now where I suspect dd1(nearly 12) is going along with it for my sakeBlush. (But of course there are benefits in going along with itWink)

Ah yes, humouring the grown-ups is a kind act and one that is repaid in monetary terms. Adults get so much enjoyment from it, it'd be shame to spoil their fun... Grin
