HELP Potty training hell!!!

Hi training my dd at the moment. Did a few weeks just putting her on the potty fully clothed whilst I went to the loo. Then a couple of weeks putting her on the potty after each meal with no nappy on with great success - didn't have a pooy nappy for 10 days! Then a week ago took the plunge and put her in pants. Initially not to bad some accidents but only to be expected. On days 4 and 5 great success but since then downhill fast. This afternoon she has had six accidents (wees and poos). She looked like she needed a poo so put her on the potty - she got off and promptly did it on the floor. She then went into the other room and carried onin there! She just doesn't seem to know (or today at least it seems that way). Do you think its worth sticking with it or going back to stage 2 again and trying again ina few weeks time. Any comments greatfully received!

how old is she? girls tend to train faster than boys but i didnt even attempt it til mine turned three and they were both done in a few days. i know lots of people have done it earlier but it is much harder that way. depends how desperate you are to get her out of nappies!

She's nearly 2 and I know some people think that's early and I expect it to be harder work but who's to say if I leave it 6 months she will be any quicker at it?

I would definatly leave it at least another 6mths unless she shows any interest in it sooner.

My 2 dd's were about 2.10 before they were potty trained, and Ds has just become potty trained at 2.8.

knat, I trained dd at a similar age. She did just as you've described, some good days followed by a few hellish days and then cracked it slowly but surely. Like you say, it does seem to take longer when they are a bit younger.

For me, it was worth sticking with in the long run, although I can remember being very frustrated at the time.

Good luck

I attempted to start with DD at 2 1/2. Mum was up for a week so I thought it would be good to have a bit extra help, also had a 1 year old. Well, we had the week from hell, accidents all over the place, not once in the potty or toilet, nightmares and holding wee and poo for hours/days. There was just no way that I was going to carry that on. Attempted again just after her 3rd birthday and want a difference experience, no accaidents at all and straigh to a toiler. So, in my experience, there is a age (different in all children) when they are ready and if you do it at the age its so easy.

there is a saying - start potty training at two, finish at three. start potty training at three, finish at three. might not be a real saying, but i have def read it on here!

most of the people i know who trained early trained themselves more than the baby. they were always watching for signs and shoving them on the loo when they thought they needed it. i left it later and they knew exactly what they were doing so asked when they needed to go. i like an easy life, even if it means carting a nappy bag round longer!

I disagree, that really wasn't my experience.

I did not train myself, I had a little girl asking to use the potty/toilet within a couple of weeks. She started pre-school at 2.6 and has never had an accident there (yet). She does have accidents but only what I would expect of a 3 year old.

It may not have been an easy life for that fortnight but it has been since. A cheaper one too and that means a lot to me and my kids, the money saved on nappies really made a difference to us.

It really doesnt sound like she's ready. My dd is nearly 2 and I'll consider starting in 6 months.
