Really bad nappy rash

Ds is 15 months and since wednesday has really bad nappy rash. I have been using Sudo Cream but it is getting worse and is now spotty as well as red. Has anyone got the name of a good cream we can try rather than the chemist handing over something that might or might not work. Thankyou.

metanium works for us, but be warned it's a nightmare if it gets on anything, it's bright yellow and stains.

What are you cleaning his bum with?

there si a cream that loads of people recommend begins with mel something or other (real helpful there arent I) Can I suggest wiping his bum with a cloth soaked in camomile tea tho as well as it really helps. I make up a baby bottle of camomile tea with two bags in it and leave to cool and just carry it with me with a couple of cloths. Works wonders.

Also try for as much nappy free tiem as poss if you can.

Hope he gets better soon.

Those stripy green Johnsons wet wipes.

Try not to use the wipes until his diarrhoea has gone. Use cotton wool and warm water, then the cream of your choice. If it's sudocrem (which I prefer, being an ex-nurse), only use a very small amount, too much can have the opposite effect.

Maybe that is where I am going wrong, have been pitting lots on thinking that will help.

switching to cloth nappies for a day helps ds usually. although when he is getting a tooth sometimes there is nothing you can do, and it just disappears on its own when the tooth arrives.

I swear by Drapolene. Works every single time.
As does taking the nappy off, dunking her bot in water or using cotton wool and water instead of wipes.
Also think about changing diet for a couple of days. I tend to limit fruit when DD has the runs and it does tend to work.

SleepySuzy · 26/08/2005 13:11

Aha!

Distel · 26/08/2005 13:12

It could be teeth, which could explain the runs as well, he has lots but there are gaps between his front and back so these could be coming through.

We use Sudocrem at first then if it gets worse, Metanium...my SIL is a nurse and used to work in ICU, thats what they use on bad cases of nappy rash for patients.
I agree tho, metanium is awful to try and get out of stuff...very bright yellow!

Distel · 26/08/2005 13:21

Right then, Metanium it is then and some Camomile tea. Ds will thankyou from the heart of his bottom .

metanium here two - however I found mixing it with the sudocrem helped when it came to wiping it off. Also - if you just use the straight metanium - use a little olive oil on cottonwool to clean his bum etc - gets the metanium off.

It isn't thrush - by any chance.... if so - we used daktozin cream - cleaned it up in no time. Available over the counter at the pharmacy.
