School uniforms For Tinies

Help DS is starting reception and i cannot find a school uniform for him - he is pretty small - in 18-24 months or 2-3 years trousers.
Top half is less of a problem as he will fit in some 3-4 years stuff. So basically is there anywhere that sells 2-3 years school trousers? Or at the very least ones with the elasticated button thing that i could take up the ends of massively?

So pleased i didn't send him to the local nursery where they wear uniform and i would have been doing this a year ago!

Have you tried M&S? I have a skinny-minnie girl but I know that they had tiny summer dresses. Age 2-3 mine was. Also M&S sizes are always quite small.

Concordia · 09/08/2010 00:05

i looked on the m and s website but the clothes only seemed to go down to 3, for the boys trousers at least.
but i haven't actually been into the shop.
...dreading it all really...
we have a big m and s near us so i should bite the bullet and go.

I am very jealous of your massive M&S. I live in Australia whee the clothes are verging on the hideous and cost a fortune to boot.

any french brand will come up smaller and they usually have the adjustable elastic too.A french 2-3 is labelled 3y,3-4 labelled 4y etc.La Redoute or verbaudet might have trousers or jumpers in his size that would be suitable for school.I have girls so I'm not up to speed with boys things.

i bought size 3 skirts from m and s for dd last year in reception. maybe they do small trousers too>?

Your ds sounds exactly the same as mine! When he started reception last year I bought M&S age 3 with elasticated waists (and got my mum to turn them up as I can't sew). They actually didn't fall done (unlike 95% of his trousers)

I also bought some age 3 shorts which made life easier as they didn't need turning up - they were below his knees so he wore them for the first half of the autumn term and all of the summer term.

I've just bought him some new non-school trousers (tragically in a size 18-24 months, though I did buy some age 2-3). I found Next the best as they have pull-cords at the waist which actually work (as opposed to being decorative.

It is a pain isn;t it - he's skinny, with no bottom and to make it worse clothes that fit his legs are designed for kids with nappies.

notsureatall · 09/08/2010 14:43

or even fall down, oops!

MrsDinky · 09/08/2010 14:44

My DS was still in 2-3 year trousers (sometimes 18-24mo even) when he started school and he fitted in the M&S size 3 adjustable waist ones perfectly.

another vote for mothercare here. DS1 had to wear a uniform for the nursery class of his school and at the time he was only just going into 18-24 month clothes (July born and small for his age). Their age 2-3 polo shirts fitted well after a hot wash. I managed to get him some super small shorts at a local department store.

John Lewis are also good about ordering in less common sizes and will alter clothes if you (like me) are not much good at sewing.

good luck!

Thanks everyone!
hmm, yes, one day DS managed to put on his teddy bears shorts....
never mind, small and beautiful.
i had assumed that size 3 was 3-4 but it sounds like it is 2-3 so i think we will be ok.

well i went to mothercare. they had nothing in and none of the other stores within a 45 minute drive had any in either - they were very sweet and rang round for me.
tried next, they didnt' have them in either, but have ordered them for me, to arrive friday. i had to pay upfront so i hope they fit.
didnt' make it to the massive m and s as i then went and lost my keys because i am very dippy!

I buy uniform at sainsburys for my average height but very skinny boy. I put the elastic on the smallest button and never move it, he grows out of them whe the legs are too short! they are £4 a pair
