Hi there. Please would you let me have your recommendations for stairgates. There's not much on the reviews page about them.

Thanks!

The wooden ones that you use an allen key to adjust the width, and can lift them off when not in use. There are a load on the market that all look alike and do the same thing. Lindam and BabyDan and Mothercare's own brand.

If you pay £25-£35 for the gate it should be a very good quality one.

Make sure you install it correctly, that's more important than which gate itself.

We have these, you have to attach the gate and the catch bits to the wall/bannister, but it means that the whole gate opens instead of having a small 'door' with a bar at the bottom to squeeze through. You can't lift them off like the ones that ragged told you about, but they are easy to use and we're very happy with ours. When open the gate can be swung back to lie against the wall, so it isn't obtrusive.

I love these.

I have them on the stairs and on the kitchen door. They are a bit pricey but worth it because they are out of the way when not in use.

You can open and close them with one hand which surprised me.

Look at your local Mothercare, we found they did quite a range.

We have the ones that open as a whole gate rather than open a small section of the middle plus the bottom bar to step over.
