Thank you card etiquette

Just your thoughts, My baby thank you cards were sent out within a couple of weeks (when DD2 slept for long periods so I was more organised) but she has since been christened. How late is too late to send them out?

I just feel like I haven't got the time to sit down and write them all out.

Also, would you send thank you cards for christmas and birthday presents?

I think people love to receive a thank-you and won't worry about the timing . Any lateness will be forgiven! But most of all, don't stress yourself too much - just do it when you can.

I'm a bit militant about thank you cards At the moment, I write them all myself for all presents received, whatever the occasion (DCs 3 and under)... In fact, I wrote 79 for DC1's birth .

I know, since having DC2, it can be hard to find the time... a way to make it easier... I bulk-buy cheap packs of non-event-related thank you cards, ditto stamps, and keep all addresses update in my gmail account. Everything all in the same place. Then, I tell myself when I have 15 minutes, I'll write one card everyday, address it, stamp it and get it straight in the post. No matter how busy the day, you can always find 15 minutes

God, I know I'm boring about this, but it's just so nice to get hand-written mail, isn't it!

Every christmas and birthday, my sister diligently sits there with a notebook in hand, making a thing of writing down who gave which present. I always laugh to myself because despite this, the card you get about 8 weeks later just says, "thank you for the present"! I, on the other hand, just keep a careful note in my head, write it down later out of sight, and try to write something relating to what's been bought. I try to send it out within 3-4 weeks, but like someone else said, just doing it is still nice to receive a thanks.

DD was christened on the 18th - I ahve written 2 TY cards (to the church, and to our neighbours as it was getting embarrassing as I kept seeing them), hope to get the others done today or tomorrow.

14hours - I can't work like that, ahve to get all or most of them done in one go or I lose track - I also like to have handy a record of the clever things I've written to go in other cards. Addressing the envelopes, putting the stamp on and posting them is the fun bit, as the difficult bit is done!

I've just ordered them from Hallmark as they were doing 50% off baby stationary until 31st Aug. i usually make my own, but I just don't have the time and I'm making cards/invites for other people at the moment.

DD was christened on the 4th better get my finger out!

I like to keep a note of who got what and mention it in the card. especially if it was a really thoughtful gift (although all gifts were appreciated).

My sister never NEVER does thank you cards, which doesn't bother me, but I like to do them, but didn't know if christmas was excessive.

Would it be unreasonable to write thank you cards for people who buy DC's a present that don't have dc'sof their own, but for those who have DC's that I buy for then no thank you card needed as we are exchanging presents!

Can't wait till Dc's are old enough to write and I'll make them do it themselves!

I like to send thank you cards. Ive found they are especially appriecated by the older generation.

DD1 was 2 last weekend and yesterday we sat and made the cards ( blank cards covered in stickers!) Todays job is to write them.
I dont think timing matters too much, i try to send them within a few weeks.

Im only sending cards to the relatives/friends who we havent seen to thank personally or id be writting hundreds!

Ive not long finished all DD2's new baby thank you's, so very glad DD1 is getting old enough to help now

I have an enormous OCD thing about thank you cards. Essential. Preferably within a month (or sooner, but when you have young DCs a month or more is totally acceptable). I am still bitter about people who's weddings we've been to who haven't sent a thank you card (when the wedding's were years ago). Some elephants never forget.....

I did 50+ thank you cards for DS in the few weeks after he was born. I'm sure if I had more than one DC it would prob take much longer though!!

I always write my thank you cards really quickly, but getting round to posting them or handing them out is another matter!! To be honest though, its lovely to get a thank you card but if I dont get one I dont think badley of that person....just think they must be busy
