ds (3) likes standing on his head - is this dangerous?

My ds has recently started climbing more over the sofas. I haven't been actively encouraging it, but I quite like seeing him be active and exploring his surroundings more (and I'm not bothered about what it's doing to the furniture). Over the past couple of weeks he's discovered that if he puts his head on the back of the seat, he can flip his legs over and rest them against the sofa back/wall and stand on his head. I've been quite impressed with his balance, and just though it was a child having fun, but he did this recently when a friend was round and they were absolutely aghast that I would let him do that. They said that it was really likely that he was risking snapping his neck and being paralysed doing that, so now it's got me thinking. My first thought was that they were completely over-reacting to what is just a child playing (health and safety gone mad), but now I'm concerned what if they are right, am I being irresponsible in letting him try this? Am I risking his health, or is he just doing what children do?

Its just what children do.

I don't know, but I've been wondering the same thing about dd (21 months) who has discovered forward rolls recently. I try to help her over to take her weight, but she often is too quick and throws herself over. Perhaps I shouldn't be encouraging her?

Your friend is bonkers. Your son is fine.
