Teething remedies for tiny baby?

Baby is only 10 weeks but already teething (my brother cut his first tooth at 11 wks so there is a precedent!)
We are putting dummies in the fridge and giving 2.5ml of calpol at bedtime if she's really miserable, but what else can we do for her? We have teethers and those dummy shaped teethers but they're too big for her wee mouth!
Is there anything topical they can have at this age? All the gels in my local Boots are 3m+.
It is definitely teeth, one can be seen and one can be felt, and I have had her ears checked by GP.

My dd2 had 2 teeth at 12 weeks old! We used the Nelsons Teetha granules but I'm not sure if they really help.

We also had a little silicone toothbrush thing you put on your finger that baby can chew/massage gums with. A bit risky once there is a tooth through though.

We didn't give calpol for teething at this age as dd wasn't suffering too much.

hth.

Bonjela teething gel is from 2 months and can help.

We presumed DD was teething this early but at 35.5 weeks (i.e. just of 8 months) she is still toothless! It turned out that as she was getting bigger I think was just hungry and colicky as when I started to give her formula and solids at 14 weeks (rather than EBF) she was a lot happier. Although as you say you have a precedent!

Mam also do a teething ring designed to be small enough for little hands/mouths, its about £5 from boots.

I keep carrots in the fridge and give them peeled to my DS to gum on, but your baby might be a bit young for that. Personally, I don't think that teething gels make much of a difference, but it won't harm trying.

Laura - my DS' teeth started bothering him at about 3 mo, then it completely stopped around 5/6 mo, he eventually cut his first one at 8.5 months and second one 9.5 mo (last weekend), with great upset, fever and the most gross nappies ever for 2 days or so.

i got the special teething dummies but they are bit too big for her wee mouth, so she's been chomping on and off my finger.poor thing!can actually see top of tooth. wish i could have the pain for her.

My DD started teething at 3 months and now has 6 teeth at 8 months . She had lots of drool, vile nappies, rashes on face and bum and lots of screaming.

Other than nurofen and teething granules, this is the best teething toy I've found.

I'm not sure from what age it can be used but anbesol gel (you need to buy it over the counter) works really well and properly numbs the gums

teetha granules and neurofen once you're at 3 months..

Soak cut up strips of muslin in cooled, concentrated chamomile and peppermint tea (2 bags of each in a bowl of boiled water). Wring out and chill in fridge or freezer (for a slightly older child). Ashton and Parson's teething powder is good, especially when their tummies are upset during teething. Have you tried this teether? I have the stage two teether and it works wonders, your baby would be old enough soon for stage 1.

Ashtons & Parsons powders (AKA baby crack). Bloody marvellous stuff. My son loves them. When he sees me opening the box, he opens his mouth and sticks out his tongue!!

AisieSusie · 25/07/2010 08:01

Anbesol liquid works really well, wet a finger with it then dab straight on the gum, as it's a liquid & you only need a tiny bit it doesn't slide off like gel. Am using it for ds who is 18 wks. Pharmacist recommended it & I was skeptical as it can be used for adults too, but beats teetha anyday.
It does smell very medicinal so I've been using it as the 'heavy artillary' of teething solutions, works like a dream though!

AllSheepareWhite i bought those teethers, but she's not keen on them too big for her.
