Ok so ive decided to give cloth a go so ordered some MEOS (PRE LOVED) Which arrived yesterday, i have been sooo excited, sad i know lol!

But i have to say i am disapointed

They look HUGE and i mean HUge especially with the wrap aswell..look so much bigger than on the web. My ds is 14lb bit they still look so big and importantly uncomfortable.

So have i just picked the wrong nappy???

Also i changed him twice between 9 and 11am and he was really wet is this normal?

Added booster but now he looks even more uncomfortable!

Any advice

Bum genius v3 are slim fitting and easy to use. It is easy to boost them if required.
Because the v4 has been launched if you google you will find lots of v3 reduced.
2-3 hours for a cloth nappy is normal I'd say.
I'm a big fan of pocket nappies and much prefer them to sized/shaped nappies and wraps which IMHO are a faff and bulky but I know there are a lot of fans out there!

QueenOfFlamingEverything · 20/07/2010 15:50

Have you tried looking on Cloth Nappy Tree? You could get a few different preloved nappies from there cheaply and see what works best before buying in bulk.

HI HAVE LOOKED BRIEFLY but find it all a bit overwhelming tbh..i really want cloth to work but seems hard work finding the right sort..my dh would rather i found a decent type i think and buy a set rather than dribs and drabs etc..plus as re sale value is usually fair by the time you add postage..as he puts it its not saving a massive amount on new..he is still unsure on the cloth front esp second cloth lol

Well - what I would say is try them for 2 weeks and see if you get used to the new shape.

If after that you still find them a bit bulky then I find Little Lamb bamboo nappies slimmer than the bumbles I normally use.

But seriously, don't worry, probably after 10 days it will look perfectly normal. And he will be easier to carry with a big nappy to get hold of!

TillyTellTale · 20/07/2010 18:24

See if there are free nappy trial buckets in your area.

Have a look at Coolababy pockets, Babybots do them too, cheapest pocket around and I have found them slim (you can use 1 or 2 inserts) and pretty reliable.

steph1512 · 20/07/2010 21:49

Just ordered a coolababy look forward to it arriving..fingers crossed its not too good to be true!

Good value nappies tend to be the flat nappies eg terries, prefolds, Disana tie on Prefolds are slimmer than terries, and there are bargains to be had eg you can buy a complete kit of 18 nappies for £50-70

If you're happy to spend a bit more, then IMO the Itti Bitti Snap in One can fit the bill - buy about 6 complete nappies and loads more inners as they're quite cheap, just replace the set of pads each time, really keeps the cost down. At 14lb you should get away with just the M and the L sets to buy. Again these are really a non-bulky nappy. For nappy + wrap, yes the Mothease is bulky now but will be fine a bit later on, and the containment is excellent.

I have whole load of bamboo bumbles (about 12, I think) I need rid of. Pre loved, that is a good saying.
I would not ask much for them. Just need to stop them from staring at me, saying 'sell us, sell us, sell us!'
(I moved onto lollipop softees. I love my DSs squishy bottom now!)

steph1512 · 21/07/2010 12:07

Iwould like to try bumbles have heard they are v.good but wasnt sure how bulky they are..did you find they dry quite quickly?

what would you like for them?

ps ive been told that there is a budget nappy - rainbowBB are identical to BG from same maker of coolababy but have they concealed pocket and strip at the top/front of nappy to stop wicking!

I think the bumble is quite bulky, and I really didn't like it.

I think one thing you need to accept is that a cloth nappy will ALWAYS be bulkier than a disposable. i found that the Bambinex bamboo nappy is quite nice and slim fitting.

yes it is normal for a cloth nappy to feel very wet when you take it off. I imagine if you're used to disposables that it may seem a little shocking. you can use fleece liners to keep baby's bum nice and dry though.

steph1512 · 21/07/2010 12:24

yep the fleece liners are keeping him dry so im pleased..i was thinking of sellinf the meos to stock up on alternative..but i think that as he gets bigger they will be better..think because he is long but not particularly cubby they look bigger on him!

ordered one coolababy so will test that but seems a bit too good to be true for the price.

Just been looking at itti bitti snap in looks lush soo soft..but bit more than i could stretch to i think, got my eye on some CLOSE PARENT pop ins?? look similar to itti bitti but slight less

Green Baby sell Itti Bittis, and they're giving 25% off with the code Organix25, so £10.50 each.

Or there's cloth nappy tree- people are always selling ittis to fund the purchases of the next size.

QueenofDreams · 21/07/2010 13:17

Steph I really like the pop ins very absorbent, they may appear quite bulky while your babt is young, as they are a one size nappy. But I do think they're worth it. I have ten of them

I also have one Itti - it is gorgeous and feels beautiful but I find that it gapes in the crotch so when ds wees it just comes straight out. So 10/10 for cuteness only 4/10 for reliability (IMO)

BranchingOut · 23/07/2010 16:44

Itti bitti are great once they have been washed a few times, to build up absorbency.

I highly recommend BG pockets - very DH friendly!
