I have never, and will never say anything to her re her NEVER EVER ending chatter, i dont want to give her a complex, but i have never known anything like it, i truly do not exaggerate - she even chatters endlessley in her sleep too! How on earth do i curb her chattering? is it possible to? Just now:.... "ive drunk my juice, you drink some juice, do you like juice, i like juice, i think everyone likes juice, does that man walking past like juice, i think he doesnt, i think he likes coffee, do you think he likes coffee, daddy likes coffee, why does daddy like coffee? does grandma like coffee?, what about grandad? i dont like coffee, have i had coffee? i think i did once when i was a baby, but, was i a baby? did i drink milk? do i drink milk now? i think i do cos i had some last night when i went to bed didnt i? do you drink milk, does the whole world drink milk" etc etc etc... theres very little if no chance at all to even answer these questions, she just rolls on and on, sometimes i do chuckle at her constant chatter, but there times/days where i feel like my ears are hurting! Is this amount of chatter normal?? She is a few weeks short of 5 btw.

DD does it too, I switch off alot of the time but she has got wise to this and slips in things like can I eat a whole cake when we get home knowing that I'm not listening and will just say yes dd

She will also suddenly switch from a lot of mindless drivel about when I was a baby, when I go to big school, I like cake etc etc to "How does the ozone layer work?" which catches me out sometimes.

See noe i made the mistake of saying to ds3 'google it' he now spends so much time googling that he learns stuff and then tries to teach me what hes learnt - this is true that I now check the history of what hes been checking out so i can at least hope to know as much as him.

I bought some industrial ear protectors from a tool shop and wore them in the house when the constant chattering from my two toddlers got too much.

Honestly, I did.

DS is barely verbal too - can't get a word in.

19m and all he says is yes, no, don't know, and Goal! No mummy, no daddy, no byebye.

undercovamutha · 20/07/2010 14:31

My DD (nearly 4) is exactly the same. Car journeys are a nightmare, cos there's no escape. I would never make a point about her constant chattering, but I have had to start suggesting we have a bit of 'quiet time' in the car sometimes, as I thought I might be going insane at one stage.

The really embarassing thing is that DS (16mo) is totally non-verbal as he can't get a word in, apart from constantly making a kind of 'oh' noise which is the exact same noise/intonation I use to answer DD when I'm not really listening and have zoned out!

my DD is EXACTLY like this she is 4.7 now and has been a chatterbox since about 3.5yo

i love her constant dialogue but it does get a little wearing after a few hours i do admit

i call her my little chatterbox and bought her a little miss chatterbox t-shirt which she LOVEs

i recommend earplugs...not that i use them myself but i have seriously considered them on the more loud moments

I was actually pleased to go a bit deaf for a while when i had an ear infection.

CharlotteACavatica · 20/07/2010 16:42

Lmao - ear plugs Poor dd, i am a little snappy with her today, i just think im getting to the end of my tether with it lol. Hardest thing i think is because she missed out on school last year by 12 days (sob) so apart from a couple of full days a week at pre-school, i have her at home with me all day every day, she even follows me around wherever i go, chattering, honestly she even follows me to the toilet and stands outside the door gassing while im in there!! I actually told her the other day that i wasnt it the bathroom anymore id gone in the garden to hang laundry out, bless her she went and had a look, but i got around 3 minutes peace yaaaaaaaaahooooooo! lol
