STAINS!!!!!

Hi, can anyone help?
I have been using reusable nappies, both cotton and bamboo, and am having real trouble getting 'poo' stains out!!!
I have tried the 'magic sun trick' but even that isn't working - despite the fact that we have had loads of sun lately.
I am dry pailing them and then (usually the same day) washing them in Tesco nature washing liquid at 60, with a pre-wash of Simply sensitive at 30. I have tried the other way round, and tried doing with and without pre-wash. Nappies are still coming out well stained. Hoping it's not the washer as is only year and half old!
Maybe it is what DS is eating - veggie baby? Don't want to use anything with enzymes as I'm sensitive to them and so don't want to risk them on DS.
Thanks in advance.

We dry pailing then wash at 40o with non-bio & 2 dessert spoons of Napisan. They come out the washing machine still stained but disappear totally when put in direct sunlight - the Napisan seems to react with the sun. Our liners are fleece

Thanks Gracek. Will try the napisan.
Have been using the flushable liners most of time, but seem to have real problem with getting them to stay where they should be which is adding to the staining problem as so much of the poo is actually going onto the nappy. Maybe using fleece liners all the time instead will help to keep the actual nappy cleaner. Will give both things a go.

Try a cold rinse before washing, perhaps instead of your pre wash? I realise this may not be much better/different to a 30 degree prewash. I find Persil non bio v. good on stains, not sure about its environmental or skin kind credentials tho! In the past I've used Surcare and Ecover as DD had bad eczema, both these products were pretty hopeless (IMHO!) on whites and stains.

I use a bit of washing up liquid on the stain before it goes in the wash bucket (dry pail), works a treat for me.

Ah right, will have a go at washing up liquid before buying some napisan! Thanks

I'd second using fleece liners. They stay put much better than paper ones, you never need run out and work out much cheaper.

Warwickmum · 17/07/2010 22:13

Thanks Rosebud05.Could you recommend any particular fleece liners? I have some that are more like fluffle type fleece, but DS bottom always seems 'wet' when take nappy off. Is it better to have the microfibre ones?

I can't seem to do links, but if you Google any of the nappy sites eg the Nappy Lady, the washable nappy co, babykind and type in 'fleece liners' you'll get a range.

LacksDaisies · 17/07/2010 22:57

Napisan generally not good for nappies as it can break down the fibres. It's especially not good for wraps as it can attack the waterproof coating and reduce the lifespan and isn't as environmentally friendly as other sanitisers.

Try a nappy friendly sanitiser like Lollipop Clean and Fresh, or TotsBots Potion is a wash specially formulated for nappies which has good stain removing properties.

Is your DS teething? I always found that teething poo stains were harder to shift, but that they do go eventually.

there are loads of fleece liners out there, but I found the basic rectangular ones are the best, and thicker ones seem better for getting solids off! I have bought some, and also made my own out of fleece scarves bought for a pittance at the charity shop.

The sun is really good for getting stains out but we peg ours on the very edge of the rotary washing line with the stained side out. I've found they do need to be in direct sunlight - do you have a sunny window ledge?

We use biodegradable flushable nappy liners from Imse Vimse. They fit great in our Itti Bittis (folded in half) and they don't seem to move around or crumple up in the nappy either.
