Newcomer to reuseables would like recommendations!

Hi All,

Am due in a few weeks and have a voucher from the council for money towards reuseables...not sure where to start though!

Am not sure that I will be using them full time to begin with, but do want something that can be used for a long time, so she isn't going to grow out of too quickly. I will be staying at home with her for a fair while, so I won't be expecting a nursery to change them etc. We don't have a tumble dryer but do have a heated dryer, so whilst obviously I don't want anything that takes forever to dry it isn't the end of the world if they are not super quick if you see what I mean.

I have seen this offer online, has anyone used this brand before and are they any good?

Any recommendations would be gratefully appreciated!

I use terry squares and I love them I have also used shaped nappies with a newborn (tots bots fluffles) which were good. I have some bulky shaped ones for nights (minki huggles) and I have one pop in nappy which I love very much indeed as it is so quick ot put on and slim fitting.

Your best bet is to get a few different nappies and see what you like best. If you look here then there are some trial kits with a few different nappies in. When you know what you like then you can buy more rather than shelling out for a full set of nappies and not getting on with them.

I have used Wonderoos from birth to now - DS is 2.3 and big for his age - am pretty happy with them as I just bought 12 nappies and liners and have never had to use anything else. Have had DS in disposables at night and when travelling though.

That said, I agree with the previous poster - best to try a few out if you can, as different sized and shaped babies suit different nappies. I also had some other brands and they just didn't fit my DS as well.

If you can maybe borrow a couple from a friend or try a few different styles off eBay, that might be a good idea.

Basically it's a choice between all in ones or two-parts.

All-in-ones are more convenient but more expensive and generally take much longer to dry so you need more of them.

Two-parters are a bit more faff cos there's two bits to do, but are cheaper, quicker to dry, last longer (as you don't need to get as many different sizes) and are generally more absorbent and better at containment (ie they hold more wee for longer and are more likely to contain a baby poo explosion.

If you go for a two-parter (cloth nappy plus waterproof outer wrap) you have to decide whether to get a flat square which you fold yourself or a pre-shaped one. Flat are again more of a faff and possibly a bit less containment depending on how good you are at folding, but they are very very cheap and very very quick drying. Shaped are probably
the best thing you can get for containment, but obviously a bit more expensive and slower to dry.

I use a shaped two-part system - Bumbles nappies and motherease wraps. Because at the end of the day the thing you end up caring most about is how reliable they are.
Hope that helps
Hope that

My short and sweet recommendation is Bumgenious flips! Fantastically reliable, very durable and funky. they are not ultra cheap, but because you might get two extra inserts for every wrap+insert, it averages out to about £22 for three nappy changes.

Nursery do change reusable nappies! Dont let childcare put you off. If you want nappies for nursery just go for simple nappies like all in ones with velcro fastenings, that way they are no harder than changing a disposable probs easier as they are not filling up their nappy bins! All they have to do is shove them in your wetbag and you take them home! I recommend bumgenius for nursery as they are aplix fastening and ok to dry for you as they are pockets which come apart.
