9mo fear of touching things?mostly food

Hi guys, hoping you could advise me on this situation. My 9mo DS is really weird about touching things. Finger food is out of the question unless its toast! He gets really angry if I put it in front of him and finally uses his anger to knock it on the floor. He's the same if its a noisy toy, or a doll with hair on, even juice! so he eats quite well, lumpy food etc-(he's got no teeth so does quite well IMHO)
The HV has just done a 9mo check thing and said that finger foods is really important, so now im bit worried. What do u all think? Is it really important? Also will he be a slow talker if he doesn't eat finger foods?
Any advice?
Thanks for reading

Babies swipe things - it is what they do

He is eating finger food ... Maybe try bread sticks or crackers if he likes dry stuff

No idea about finger foods and talking ... I think there is some discussion about jaw chewing and muscles in the jaw developing but am no expert

Could he have sensory issues?

My DS1 did but these were not spotted until he was about 8...

I will try and find some resources.

dirtgirl, my ds1 was like this
he HATED getting his hands dirty or anything

he also had issues about walking with bare feet (esp on grass or sand) he refused once to walk in mud even tho he had boots on, he wouldn't play in the sandpit or touch any sand/grass

he is 5 now and refuses chocolate biscuits unless someone will hold them for him in case he gets chocolate on his hands!

he will play in/on sand/grass now tho

thanks for your replies. It's so bizarre! though ive just remembered if you put a chocolate button down he'll pick it up and eat it and make a right mess. so I'm not sure what's up? I know babies are quite fussy in general with food but not touching anything other than toast and buttons is just weird? he wont even look at breadsticks. not sure which crackers 2 try?he has no teeth so they cant be to hard!

One of my twin boys is like this - actually the best of the 2 at eating lumpy food if it was fed to him but very weird about "sticky" finger foods. Also had issues with grass, dirt etc. the first few times we sat him outside (from about 11 months). Which was great at containing him on a picnic blanket - so a bit sad that he did get over it

He's still a bit fussy, but getting better. He will be persuaded to touch unappealing things when he realises how tasty they are - like chocolate buttons for your boy, it's strawberries for mine. Though mango is still very upsetting for him - so yummy, yet unbearably sticky.

He's a huge ricecake fan - though he wouldn't have a problem with breadsticks either, so you may have to just try different things.

And as far as talking and development goes - it's very early, he can deal with toast and lumpy foods so he's doing the necessary chewing.

Just keep leaving things for him to pick up or leave as he fancies while you feed him. I'm sure he'll improve very soon as he gets more dexterous. Just remembered that my fusspot loves peas and sweetcorn since he developed his pincer grip.
