Ok so i am COMPLETELY CLUELESS.

Ive justy had my third dc and have always thought about trying cloth nappies but never have as have no idea where to start or what i need.

So i would be so grateful if you could give me a list of exactly what needed and how much ill need.

The what i need to do lol

Dont want to go mad buying things i dont need.

My ds is 3mth and 13lb ebf and often with leaky nappies.

Hoping to do this transition as cheaply as poss..so maybe an ajustable range???

If you wanting something to contain all poo and dispoosables often leak you will be best with 2 part nappies (nappy and a seperate wrap)
How many you will need depends on how often you want to wash and how quick you can get them dry!
Choose cottons for quick drying and bamboo if you want absobancy but dyings not a problem. Wraps can be used more than once before washing so you dont need as many, plus they dry in minutes!
If you want a two part nappy that lasts from birth to potty a onesize like motherease maybe what you need. If you dont mind changing once you baby is bigger you could try tots bots stretchy bamboozle, they last quite a while as they have poppers to adust them, they are not onesize though.
You cant beat motherease for wraps imo

hi i have found some totsbots nippa ones which are being discontinued so pack of 5 for 8.50..do you think these are a good buy and worth ago? I would be drying in conservatory summer and radiator/tumble in winter.

And would obviously have to buy nippas and liners and wraps..everyone has said to go for motherease.

Need to try to get it right first time so my dh cant say ive just entered another obsession on the baby front

Sounds good - the MN For Sale board and ClothNappyTree both have bargain second-hand often virtually unused nappies, wraps, etc.

From week 2 or 3 you can give dh a running tally of how much money you've saved (plus how much landfill tax you've saved your council, if you want to get seriously smug!)

CarGirl · 11/07/2010 17:55

the totsbots really are complete bargains! I'd get 10 of them in total and then buy some other things 2nd hand.

easypeasy bumbles nappies are great as he is now 13lbs you could probably use them from now until he is potty trained.

They are similar to tots but you can remove and insert extra stuffing as you need it, again they are nippa fitting, faster drying though because the come apart more.

I wouldn't tumble your nappies it kills them! Spin on max spin and perhaps in the winter tumble a little and then leave to air dry - otherwise all the lovely white fluff gets eaten by the tumbler

CarGirl · 11/07/2010 17:57

Best to wash ever other day just so they can dry and yes dry pail don't bother with soaking!

steph1512 · 11/07/2010 19:53

The more i seem to look the more confused i get!!

Im thinking i like the tots bots ones.

But there are so many,

2piece
allin1
birth to potty etc etc

Im now wondering if i get them whether to get birth to potty to save money long term!?!

I could maybe use the same set between my dd24mths and my ds15wk? Or is this not practical

Sorry for all the questions i never realised how confusing this cloth nappy business was

2 piece are the most reliable so I would go for them otherwise you'll be really fed up!

If you got bumbles then yes you could use them on both dc - I did with with bumbles.

Motherease one size would also work. I am selling a bundle of these in VGC - 23 nappies and 13 boosters, have got small & medium wraps too - your older one may well need large wraps by now! I don't want to influence your decision though.

Motherease are a good nappy - they use poppers, just a bit boring but they are popular and well known. I am selling mine cheaply if you're interested - look on the nappies to buy/sell.

ok thank you i am interested

The other things you'll need are a nappy bucket (or similar) to put dirty ones in at home. We also have mesh bucket liners so I can just grab the mesh bag and sling the whole lot in the washing machine. No need to soak or pre-rinse, just put dirty nappies in the bucket then transfer to the washing machine. DON'T use fabric softener when washing though! DD is now 10 months and we also use a flushable liner to catch the poo for putting down the loo.

Plus, a wet bag of some description for your change bag. I'd suggest a good quality one with a zip rather than drawstring as the later tends to get caught on the plastic coating lining the fabric.

Check to see if your local council will give you money to switch to reusables, might only be a few quid but better than nothing.

We also got a very handy Johnsons baby box as a gift. I stripped out the inside and it's brilliant for putting the reusables in when going away. You might need to think about storing the nappy bits at home etc, but easily done with a box or basket.

I don't want to confuse you further but just had to say I love my birth to potty pocket nappies and they fit both my toddler and baby. I've got a mixture of bum genius and wonderoos (and a couple of other bits and bobs). I bought some sized nappies for the new baby but didn't get on with sized nappies and separate wraps I just love the convenience of pocket nappies and the fact that they fit both girls. I set up a stack for DD1 and another for DD2 but if I run out of one pile then it's easy enough to switch the settings and inserts to suit the other.
Bumgenius have just launched v4 which I haven't tried yet but there are a lot of bargains to be hand on v3s while shops clear their stock and there is a new wonderoo v2 again which I have not tried.
With pocket nappies it's easy to boost your inserts depending on the size of the wearer and whether they are heavy wetters or not.
