BOYCOTT ESSO AND BP TO BRING DOWN PETROL PRICES!

CountessDracula · 18/08/2005 13:47

Just received this email>

We are hitting 98.9p a litre in some areas now ( mine is at this level )

and soon we will be faced with paying £1 a ltr.

Here's an idea:

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy petrol on a certain day"

campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil>companies

just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to hurt

ourselves by refusing to buy petrol. It was more of an inconvenience

to us than it was a problem for them.

THIS PLAN HOWEVER, CAN REALLY WORK. PLEASE READ IT AND JOIN IN!

Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to

think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP, we need to take aggressive

action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace not sellers.

With the price of petrol going up more each day, we consumers need to take

action.

The only way we are going to see the price of petrol come down is if we

hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing their Petrol!

And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. Here's the idea:

For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two

biggest oil companies (which now are one), ESSO and BP. If they are

not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices.

If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow

suit. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of

Esso and BP petrol buyers.

It's really simple to do!! Now, don't whimp out on me at this point...

keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of

people!!

If each of you send itto at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... and those

300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on,

by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will

have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get

excited and pass this on toten friends each, then 30 million people will

have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it... ..

THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!

Again, all You have to do is send this to 10 people - that's all.

How long would all that take?

If each of us sends this email out to ten more people, within one day

of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within

the next 8days! Acting together we can make a difference.

If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on.

PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO NEARER 69p a LITRE

It's easy to make this happen. Just forward this email, and buy your

petrol at Shell, Asda, Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons, Jet etc.

Boycott BP and Esso.

the main reason it didnt work last time with the truckers boycotting the fuel depots was because most of them were self employed and not from big haulage companies like eddie stobart etc. all the self employed guys just couldnt afford to boycott any longer. we all have families to support and kids to feed. it is such a shame it didnt last longer , it may have had an effect on mr blair and brown.
but some people were totally against the boycotting. someone called me and my partner some nasty names for doing it. but we were doing it for the whole country. the fuel prices are putting the small haulage companies out of business. how do people think they get milk for their coffee, with trucks. we showed how the country could come to a stand still if their was no deliveries from trucks. well it could so easily happen more if the fuel prices continue to rise and more haulage companies are forced to call it a day.
it is a really difficult one when you got that weasel little twat running the country

CountessDracula · 18/08/2005 15:38

But they are not saying boycott all petrol stations just bp and esso

Haven't we been through all this before? Oil prices are not dictated by Esso or BP..... oh and incidentally..... I don't think any of the supermarkets own any oil fields so they are just buying it from the major oil companies anyway!!! For example: Most of the fuel in Scotland and the North England comes from the Forties Pipeline in the North Sea! It all comes from the same place and is processed/Refined at Kinneil in Grangemouth then sold!

Sorry... the only way would be to stop buying petrol AT ALL. And thats never going to happen.

At the moment it is a cartel situation. The aim is to try and break that.

CD - But people will just buy the same amount of petrol elsewhere!! With most of these places buying from BP then BP will still be getting rid of the same amount of petrol! It might even put this price up as BP/ESSO may charge the other companies more.

ark · 18/08/2005 17:04

I have to say when I first saw this I thought what a fabulous pr stunt on behalf of Shell!

Sonnet · 18/08/2005 17:14

mmm and even more power to the supermarket giants me thinks!

QueenOfQuotes · 18/08/2005 17:15

no - not really a benefit for the supermarket giants - as someone else has said it all comes from the same main suppliers anyhow!

Easy · 18/08/2005 17:18

I agree, I haven't bought 'Branded' petrol for years anyway, always buy at the supermarket (and shop around those), currently do the weekly shop at sainsbugs and get my 5p per litre off with that.

QueenOfQuotes · 18/08/2005 17:20

It likes with most of the 'branded' stuff you buy in the supermarkets - most of it is made by the same people that make the supermarket own stuff- they just put a different lable on it!

My dad used to work in a place in Bedford that made Pizza's for about 3 of the big supermarkets. The same selection of pizza's would roll of the line, and then they'd all just have different lables put on

Tinker · 18/08/2005 17:21

Exactly toothache. The majors supply the supermarkets. And I hate the tone of these emails. Wimp was spelt "whimp" which immediately turned me off.

CountessDracula · 18/08/2005 17:29

Yes I agree

Only put on here as discussion point you know

is intersting if all the others buy their petrol from BP/Shell anyway, then what would be the point of all this?

OP posts:
suedonim · 18/08/2005 17:42

The likes of BP only make about 1p or 2p a litre on petrol so I can't see how prices could be reduced by 20p or 30p a litre. Targeting the govt's tax regime is the only way to reduce prices - or use less fuel in the first place, reducing demand and thereby forcing a price cut.

Tbh, it's a bit of a contradiction that people on one hand (not pointing at anyone on MN - just the creators of the message!) demand low fuel prices and on the other condemn G Dubya for going into Iraq because 'he only wants their oil.' If we want cheap fuel and can't produce it ourselves it has to obtained from somewhere.

NannyL · 18/08/2005 22:17

i only ever het my petrol from tesco anyway

its always a couple of p cheeper per liter + i get my clubcard points

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 18/08/2005 22:26

what makes me laugh is the fact that the likes of sainsburys and tescos can offer vouchers for money off petrol when shopping in store.... 5p off a litre is quite a bit so how can they justify the higher rate anyway????

Oh well.... i get my petrol wherever i am when i need it - usually Asda or Sainsburys but have used Esso tonight

SueW · 18/08/2005 22:40

WHen we were in California a few weeks ago, everyone was oigng nuts cos petrol prices had risen to around $2.70 (£1.50 approx) per GALLON!!!!!

Janh · 18/08/2005 23:00

Of course US gallons are only 80% of UK gallons, Sue, so that was actually nearly a whole £2.00 a gallon.

Makes you want to weep, doesn't it, when you think how many gallons they get through.

Ladymuck · 18/08/2005 23:36

Sorry Countess, but you've been caught out by an urban legend .

I also refer you to this thread .

Janh · 18/08/2005 23:40

Thanks, lm, I knew it was one of those but couldn't find it, damn!
