My dd woke up at 5am hot and clammy this morning so I scooped her out of her cot and took her into bed in the spare room. We spent the next 2 hours drifting in and out of sleep and whenever I woke up, she was staring at me with her big blue eyes and squishing her little feet into my stomach. I really felt 'oh my god, I'm a mum' which obviously, I know I am, but do you know what I mean?

Been a bit down lately as I am working full time to cover hols and missing dd hugely, but this morning really lifted my spirits

I know what you mean! I still get that feeling when DS1 (4.5) or DS2 (2.5) sits on my lap and snuggles into me. It's lovely isn't it - and a bit of a shock!

That's so yummy olive oil.

I laugh when you are trying to go back to sleep and all you can see are two big eyes willing you to smile!

Tissy · 17/07/2003 10:08

I felt all gooey when dd lifted up her arms to me this am and said, "aaah tuddle!", but she then said it to some cows in a field on the way to nursery!!

I still feel like that now with ds 3.8. He comes in early and climbs into my bed and I pretend to still sleep while he spends the next few minutes waking me up gentle, then those big blue eyes look at me and he gives me a kiss and cuddle, or miss and suddle as he calls it.

She kept wacking me in the face as well as if to say 'wake up!'

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Have you read the report in the Times this morning about the increased risk of suffocation through co-sleeping? There seems to be so much mixed advice about this. My maternity hospital actively encouraged it with ds2 (having been quite anti when I was in having ds1).

whymummy · 17/07/2003 12:24

hi harrysmum!(that could be my name too by the way )i always sleep with my children when theyre not well,im too soft i know

I LOVE waking up with ds (2) smiling right at me. Especially if it is later than 7am.

It's the most wonderful feeling.... wish he would spend the occasional night in his own bed though!

ds (16m.o.)comes in with us for a cuddle most mornings, and if he's unsettled during the night (generally less than 1x per week) and I love it - he's soooo cuddly when hes between awake and fast asleep.

But one of my favourite memories was when we were staying at a friends - dh & ds had travelled up in the morning after I'd gone to work and ds was aleep by the time I got there in the evening (though dh told me it was some feat pursuading him to go to bed). The adults went out for a meal and when we got back ds was fine but became unsettled as we went to bed so we brought him in with us. I woke up a couple of hours later with ds leaning on my chest, his face inches from mine, grinning hugely at me

princesspeahead · 17/07/2003 13:29

I quite often wake up with my ds in bed having an earnest discussion with his favourite polar bear "do you think mummy is awake?" "no, her eyes are asleep" "shall we jump on mummy to wake her up?" "yes, that's a good idea" followed by him making the bear jump up and down on my head....

oliveoil · 17/07/2003 13:36

so the bear is in trouble and not him? How is your maternity leave going, have you a nice tan?
