I agree with Paolosgirl. If it's nothing then SS may call and have a chat and nothing more will come of it. But if not it could really matter - maybe because there are negalect issues, but maybe it's a sign that family is under a lot of stress and need help. Talking to the nspcc sounds a good plan to me.

Unbelievable - i know this may be selfish - but when i hear of things like that, i know im doing a pretty good job with my babies. Yeh -Yeh should not be the response of a woman whos child had been gone for that length of time. Apolgise as i have not read the majority of replies but if you feel the child is in danger - there are always anonymous ways to go about raising suspicions. DO what you feel you can live with, onlu you were there to really 'see' this so called mothers reaction. I may sound harsh, but i'd rather be neurotic in this day and age than trusting
