I heard on the news about an hour ago about the sad demise of the Iranian twin girls. Even though the operation was 50/50 I think these girls had amazing courage to go ahead with the seperation. It is very sad but obviously it was not meant to be (for them to be seperated).
So lets spare a thought for these very courageous young ladies...

It is very sad, think of the desperation both most have felt with their situation to have attempted such surgery.

what a shame they were incredibly brave

SoupDragon · 08/07/2003 18:12

Oh... I heard one had died but didn't realise both did

Pie, I think that they decided to go ahead with the operation because the pressure was building up within their skull to such a degree that they would have died if the operation wasn't tried. They might have lived a little longer, but the long term outcome was not good. Very sad. It makes you realise how amazing it is that such complicated surgery ever works.

How sad

I was very sad to hear about their deaths - they were very brave and it's terribly sad...

hi doormat, its really sad,i was crying the other day when i read one of them didnt want to go ahead at the last minute, she must have been so scared

eefs · 14/07/2003 14:18

interesting article in the sunday times yesterday about them - it made me appreciate how hard it had been for them and how they were right to go ahead with the operation even though the chance of sucess was slim. They seem to have had quite a hard life as well, so a lot of sympathy for them.

doormat · 14/07/2003 16:02

It really is upsetting especially when you hear how one didnt want to go ahead with the op.

how old were they? I'd assumed they were babies (not read the news)

lilymum · 14/07/2003 20:31

monkey, they were 29. They both had law degrees, and were hoping to pursue careers after the operation, one as a lawyer, the other as a journalist. Desperately courageous of them to have gone for surgery.

wow - 29, tough for them & the family. Imagine all they've gone through & it's ended like this.
