I've just made my first sale on EBay a Double pushchair, but I haven't got a clue how to pack and post it
I did check the weight with Royal mail, so I know how much it should cost but what should I do now? Any ideas how to wrap it , do I take it to the post office. Any advice gratefully received.

I'd wrap it in bubble wrap and then brown paper.

Thats probably the cheapest way.

You can get the bubble wrap from the PO I think.

geekgrrl · 04/08/2005 21:36

I cut up some large cardboard boxes and used those bits and lots of brown tape to fashion some rather unelegant packaging for a double pushchair.

whimsy · 04/08/2005 21:39

Thanks, started to panic I didn't even think about packaging. I was so excited that it was selling
What do I do then? Do I just take it to the local post office?

may be worth using www.parcel2go.com they charge £8

whimsy · 04/08/2005 22:21

Thanks, will try that

if you ever need lots of bubblewrap, go to Staples or B&Q instead. much, much cheaper than the PO.

kid · 04/08/2005 22:46

Use cardboard on the edges (wheels) and then bin bags over that and lots of tape!

Don't use felt tip to write the address on incase it rains. Don't forget to get proof of postage.

whimsy · 04/08/2005 23:11

Do I take it to the local post office then?

I know some post offices will only take parcels upto a certain size and weight.
I had a double buggy delivered a couple of years ago (that I bought on Ebay) and I paid £6 for that.

Phone the post office with the measurements and see what they say, you wouldn't want to take it there and be sent back home with it!

Janbo25 · 05/08/2005 08:13

no just go to the website and fill in the form and they will collect direct from you

whimsy · 05/08/2005 08:22

Oh thanks, now to start wrapping

whimsy - can I ask which courier you used or did you take it to the Post Office? I have a double buggy on eBay at the moment and am worried about posting it. All the sites (parcelforce, parcels2go etc)say the girth must be not more than 300cm, but I reckon that once I've packaged it up it it will be slightly over that.
Any help/advice would be much appreciated!

Gillian76 · 26/08/2005 23:16

300cm is 3 metres. What size is your pushchair???

cerys · 26/08/2005 23:26

all the sites say girth = length + 2xwidth + 2xheight.
my pushchair is 100cm tall, 75cm wide (so 2x 75=150) and 30cm high (2x30=60cm). I make that 310cm without the packaging!
I didn't think it would be this complicated. Do you think the couriers would be worried about it being a few centimetres over?

am bumping this in case any other Mumsnetters have posted double buggies recently and can help me!

Its £8.99 plus vat and it works out at £10.56 for a parcel up to 25kg.

Send it quick.com are £9.99 for a parcel up to 36kgs.

I have used both and they are great :-)

I had a bloke in Hamburg buy my VTech baby Walker even though I had specified UK only - we've since found out that it would cost £25 to send via parcel force - he changed his mind (he was very apologetic) and now I'm stuck trying to get one of the other bidders to buy it or I'll be out of pocket!!

spacecadet · 27/08/2005 19:14

i use senditquick, you can juggle measurements about a bit, measuring the width as height etc so that you dont go over your overall girth. senditquick are 10.49 for 24 hour delivery, 9.99 for 48 hour. parcels2go charge 8.99 for 24 hour delivery, but you have to add 17.5% vat onto that price, if you recommend someone to parcels2go, or display their logo in your listing, they will give you one free shipping.

lemonice · 27/08/2005 19:16

If anyone does use lots of bubble wrap the cheapest I've found is 75m rollx750mm at £12.53 plus vat from www.1north.co.uk

cerys · 27/08/2005 19:18

thanks spacecadet! Will have another look at it tonight.

HMO2, they have a set price, you just decide which courier and service you want to use.
