What is the most money you ahve spent?

I haven't slept properly for months as the springs have gone and I am in so much pain, having always had a bad back? Dreams have a great sale on and i think i should really treat myself, and dontt want mega cheap but don't want to be led to believe that a really expensive one is necessay if that isnt true?

So it's just a mattress that you want, not a new bed?
In that case I'd get memory foam every time. ours is a Tempur one and utterly wonderful.

Memory foam is not suitable for everyone and not suitable for all types of bed base.

I have just bought a new bed. I was going to buy a fabulous sleigh bed and new mattress but ended up getting a storage divan and new mattress in the end. Mine is a zip and link superking size, it had to be because even though the room is plenty big enough for the bed, the staircase just would NOT accomodate a 6ft x 6ft6 mattress no matter how many times we tried. We were replacing a kingsize bed so had never had to get anything bigger up or down the stairs before. So we had to send it back and I swapped it for a pair of 3ft zip and links instead which I knew would go up the stairs.

Mine is a pillow topped pocket sprung mattress with a 'high tech latex' layer. The latex is like a variation on mem foam but less sweaty!

It was about £3.5k

I went for a combination of sprung and latex because both DH and I prefer a firm mattress feel which we couldn't get from memory foam and also DH is quite a sweaty sleeper and memory foam isn't breathable so can make that sweatyness worse in people prone to it.

we LOVE our memory foam mattress...it was at least a grand which is a serious amount for us

You absolutely can get a firm mattress feel from the right memory foam NDP. We have 2 firm and 2 medium in our house - I have only ever been able to sleep on a firm mattress.

Agree that they are a bit hotter than a non memory foam though.

If you've got aLee Longlands near you, check them out.
The prices were great and our king size matress cost 400 quid and is brilliant. It has a memory foam top and is about 18 inches thick! I had to go out and buy new sheets to fit! They have loads of matresses in store but only a few on the web site. Definately worth a look.
