Hi I posted last week about overcoming a huge phobia of mine, - driving. I am doing journeys and building up confidence and it is (was) going really well. I am also having CBT and group therapy for anxiety. It is really a huge thing for me and I have been feeling good about myself for the firsts time in ages.

Today I got beeped at twice by different drivers for the same thing so just wanted advice on if I am doing anything wrong. When approaching mini roundabouts I always learned to slow down on approach to 2nd if clear go ahead and 1st to stop and wait for traffic already on it to wait to pass.

Admittedly I am a cautious driver but I did not slam on breaks or do anything dangerous and this guy was beeping and getting so stressed at me. On the way back the same thing happened but that was just when I slowed down a tiny bit changing gears.

DH said some people don't slow down at all on mini roundabouts and it is a question of experience at dealing with impatient drivers.

I feel like it has really set me back

In my experience a lot of people are quite simply arseholes when they are driving.

You sound cautious, sensible and, importantly, safe.

Other people climb behind the wheel and promptly decide they are in a hurry and will beep at anyone who makes them slow down at all.

I got called a wanker at the weekend for virtually the same thing.

Ignore them, I bet you are doing fine.

Jees thank you, if they only knew the stress they cause when they do this..well they probably wouldn't care at all.

So what I did was ok? phew

Slowing down as you approach a roundabout is eminently sensible IMO.

As you get more confident you'll probably approach them more quickly, but to begin with do what you are confortable with. I am a not terribly confident driver, having only recently started again after a 10 year break, but my mantra is that I will pootle and everyone else can do what they like. The stupid thing about people who beep, rev their engines etc is that you just catch up with them at the next set of lights anyway!

thank you - some people really work themselves up over a few bloody seconds wait don't they?
