what on earth can we buy DH's grandparents?

They both have birthdays at the end of the month. They are gong to be 91 and 89. In the past we have bought Bingo vouchers, M&S vouchers, made up a hamper, clothes, books, photos for the children.

Any ideas please for something original? They don't get out much (Nan is in a wheelchair and recovering from an operation and grandad is quite unsteady on his feet now) although MIL is brilliant at making sure they do have saturday lunch out, go to weekly bingo etc but tickets for a show or similar would not be suitable.

We pay for their Sky tv so that they can watch the old movies and the football so DVDs are not really welcome (tried that and Nan tutted about the waste when she has all the Sky movie channels). Grandad loves puzzles but I keep him supplied with those throughout the year so he has a huge pile yet to work his way through.

Any ideas very gratefully received.

TIA

bottle of scotch and some Thorntons
After that many birthdays I am sure they are just happy with each other and life in general. How lovely they are still together!

Vouchers for somewhere really lovely for one of their Sunday lunches out?

KnitterInTheNW · 23/03/2010 15:25

Oops, Saturday lunch. But still the same suggestion!

thanks guys. It is sweet they are still annoying, oops sorry.... enjoying each other after all this time. They celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary this summer too.

Grandad has lots of scotch from previous birthdays but i think the nice chocolates idea is good - Nan needs fattening up a bit. And I'll ask MIL if there is a restaurant that she thinks they might like to try. We can buy them vouchers or even just take them - sure they'll like that even better having lunch with their great grandchildren (as long as it's fairly child friendly!).

thanks again

His'n'hers slankets & some posh hot chocolate? Actually, I'd quite like that at 29!

mckenzie · 23/03/2010 16:47

Floopy - I've just done a search on slankets - they are perfect for nan! Thank you. Does it matter where are get them from or are there 'good' slankets and 'bad' slankets??

I have no idea, sorry. I do know that you can't beat a bit of Lakeland though!
