Million Women Rise march to end violence against women on Saturday - anyone else going?

It's only been going a few years I think but I accidentally walked into the Million Women Rise rally last year and it was fascinating. Lots of messages from women round the world (including Afghanistan) who were getting out and protesting all on the same day, it was fab.

If anyone is in London it starts at 12 at Park Lane (Marble Arch tube, should be loads of banners and stuff i imagine), women and children only. More info on their website - I am nerdishly excited about this. Lots of women standing up and yelling together with tea and cake afterwards - it'll be like RL MN

Sounds great, would if I were in the UK.

Enjoy yourselves!

we were there, it was great. but i found it depressing that there weren't EVEN more women.... things like that are still mainly attended by specific interest groups rather then women per se. there's a report in the independent on sunday if you want to read about it.

Ah brilliant, glad you made it too sandl and wish I could have magicked you there dittany and leavingonajetplane.

They said there were 8000 people there, which is about double last year I think. Trouble is, it's mainly a word of mouth thing I think. If you're not on the right email lists or what have you you're just not going to find out. I brought a couple of friends who brought a friend each too, but what else do you think could be done to get the word out?

Have got some fab pics, will post on profile later and let you know if anyone wants to see.

Hi Ladies,

Am not yet a mum so I feel a bit of an impostor, but have logged in especially to thank you all for your interest in Million Women Rise. So great that a couple of you made it and sandl, totally agree that it would be brilliant to get even more women down.

As a sort of media co-ordinator for MWR, I've done my level best to raise our profile over the past couple of years and we have managed some press as you noticed, but we still struggle to let every single woman in the UK know about the march (which is the dream).

Everyone that works for MWR does so on a voluntary basis and most of us have v busy full time jobs on the side (!) so anything any of you can do to spread the word (including posting on this blog and bringing friends to the march) is much much appreciated!

If you need any more info, you can reach me (Nina Kelly) on [email protected].

Do keep an eye on the website (www.millionwomenrise.com) or our Twitter page @MillionWomen for info on the next march. (Close to International Women's Day next year, date TBC).

We honestly believe that together we can end all forms of violence against women.

Nina

Hi Nina, I'm not a mum either, just wandered in one day and haven't managed to escape yet! Lots of people on here don't have children yet, some are men too Not sure whether or not you'll pick this up, but there is a new section on here now: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights as a result of increased discussion of feminism on here in the past few weeks. It's been really busy so far. Good luck with the planning for next year, I am in awe of you all.
