Does anbody know how to make grout inbetween the tile white again?

I'm sorting out the bathroom today and though the grout isn't bad its been a few shades of pink over the past year (have been studying and working grout last thing on mind) and though I normally can get rid of it with a toothbrush and a good scrub; it seems to be discoloured for good now.
Any ideas?

Bump - how about removing mildew as well?

(In the past I got a cream/ whitener thing from lakeland but still didn't really do the trick)

I used the grout whitener from Lakeland too. Worked very well, but it took me about a year before I got round to removing the excess from each tile with one of those old fashioned, one sided razor blades. In my defence, it is quite a large bathroom

I found that bleach works really well on our butcher's block, but I'm not sure how you'd get it to adhere to a vertical surface. Maybe if you used the extra thick stuff and applied it with an old toothbrush????

Mr Muscle makes a really good Mould and Mildew Remover.

God, for someone that's the queen of household (ie must try every new product) my house is a complete tip. Must spend less time writing about them and start using them!

bleach it. only thing that works for me.

You can get pens in B&Q that you draw over the old grout with and is supposed to whiten them. But it didn't do much for mine really. In the end I got one of the tools you can get to hack the top layer of old grout out and re-grouted.

Bleach and a toothbrush. over time it whitens a bit more.

have you scrubbed with you toothbrush and a bit of diluted bleach?

I know there are things on the market that claim to whiten grout.
Or you could regrout if you have the time?

those pens are quite rubbish. and they didn't last very long. we were only able to do a tiny bit of our bathroom with one pen before it ran out.

Agree the pens are a waste of space. The Lakeland stuff has a sponge applicator, but, like I said, you do have to go over each and every tile afterwards to remove the excess.

go to topps tiles. you get a tool that takes out a little bit of the existing grout, then you get a wee tub of stuff which i cant remember what its called. it will stay white and it is proven to not get mildew . it is antibacterial so it is used in catering kitchens. its about a fiver for the stuff and i think the tool is 3 or 4 pound

I'm sure my dh just re-grouted a bit over the top. There's also special spray-on grout cleaning bleach which works really well.

I use one of those soft sandpaper blocks and just rub the top layer off, it comes up lovely

were can you get one of those blocks from, any diy shop? does it have a proper name?

dettox mould and mildew sorts ours out a treat.

Surely sandpaper would take the glaze off the tile as well?

No it's only fine, doesn't harm the tiles at all. I think they'd know what you mean if you just ask for a sponge sanding block, they're good because you can get into the grooves (as Madonna once said)

FLASH MAGIC ERASER - (white sponge )takes out pink and black stuff on tiles and grout without any hard work. If a lot buy more than one. I think I've even seen some at the pound shop.

Bleach mixed in a paste with bicarbonate of soda, leave on for a bit, then scrub with a toothbrush..

I can't recommend this enough

Toilet bleach. Dribble down the grout and let it run down the tile. Leave 30ish mins, hose off with shower / jug of water. Generally no scrubbing required. Be careful though, dont use a toilet bleach which has a dye added to it.
