I think it's empty Donnie - it's a big blue building opposite the Rainbow...a few people have tried to revive it to no avail. the station is being revamped (not just a rumour) and the park is having a bit of a makeover - the dodgy loos have been demolished and the cafe will be rebuilt. even some of the crack-dealing phone boxes have been removed. it's a lot more algerian along bstock rd now and i think will change again when the arsenal move - the stadium is being built incredibly quickly

Love your chipshop ladies, Donnie. The day we moved into our street, we glimpsed a large lady with red hair and redder face having a wee in the gutter

bp, i think i've seen her (or a relative) weeing openly in street outside bookies in N4...

bakedpotato · 14/07/2005 15:36

The question me and my friend are trying to find an answer to is it better for her and her young family to stay put in Hackney (she lives nearish to Homerton) and hope that the schools will get better or move on to Archway. I am also in Hackney and I am advising her to move on, though I do think Hackney is great for families, lots of green spaces, museum of childhood,a real community atmosphere, but still a lot of serious deprivation. It seems to me though that her kids will be better off in that side of London, and that schools are more likely to improve there. What do you think?

sorry holloway, we have slightly hijacked this thread ! to be honest I can;t say whether hackney or Archway would be better for primary school age as I am a secondary school teacher and can only speak for the secondary schools in Islington and Haringey. Most of what I say is from colleagues/people I know who teach in those areas, as well as personal experience of living there. My gut instinct is that your friend may as well stay put. Sorry not to be much help!
