My cousin's turning her awful tragedy into something really positive.

I want to mention this on behalf of my incredible cousin who is very brave and has proved herself to be an utterly brilliant mum.

She had her first baby last year. She was a gorgeous little girl called Daisy. However very early on she was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophe. It meant she was never going to last very long and died at just 16 weeks.

My cousin and her partner knew time with their little girl was limited so they tried to try to give as great a quality of life, day to day, hour to hour, as was possible. They gave her touch and visual experiences in an ambient bedroom, poured over her with love and obviously did all they could to make her short time here as happy and fulfilling as possible and to ease her path onwards.

She says the support from the Little Bridge hospice was invaluable. The staff were brilliant and it's impossible to describe how much of a help they were at this time.

She had to drive two hours to and from the hospice which was a tough journey for all. Now the hospice is trying to build another in St Austells which would be a great help to children like Daisy and their parents.

It's not at all government funded, relying on donations. If you felt moved to do so, it would be really fantastic if you could donate a little bit so that they can get closer to their target.

You can do so at The Daisy Chain Fund and if you have got this far, thanks very much for reading.

Bumping for you

Spidermama · 26/01/2010 14:55

Thanks Meg.

It's not going too well is it?

I reckon people have given so much lately to Haiti and the Popsy's Macmillian thread which I only just noticed, that many can't really afford much more.

My dad holds dances in aid of hospices, in memory
of my mum. He's a dance teacher and does a big charity dance in Lincoln once a month, usually radio advertised so lots turn up and ballroom dancing is very popular right now. I'll ask him if he could do one for this.

The link isnt working any more.

My friends son died of SMA so very close to my heart

twolittlemonkeys · 26/01/2010 23:49

It's a cause close to my heart too as a friend's 2-year old has SMA with respiratory distress (quite amazing that he is still with us as most children with SMA don't live to see their 2nd birthday)

StrawberriesandCherries · 26/01/2010 23:51

can you do another link please Spidermama? Will be very happy to donate

What a brave lady your cousin is xx

Dillith · 27/01/2010 11:17

That's odd. The link does work for me.

Here it is again.

Sorry to hear that twolittlemonkeys. Daisy had type 1 which is the most severe aparently. Really awful. It was something like a chance in a million.

Ilovetiffany they are doing a ball in the summer to raise money and are looking for great prizes to entice people so if you or your dad have any ideas about what sort of prizes they could offer, or any inspiration, let me know and I'll pass it on. It's scandalous that there hospices are not government funded.

I hope the link works. They've set themselves a target of ten thousand pounds to raise and, as ever, every little helps.

Thanks so much.

Dillith · 27/01/2010 11:18

I'm Spider btw with a name change.
