Am off on a 3mt trip with DD and am VERY tempted to get one of these.

Anyone got one?

Good or bad idea?

We've got one, I really like it. It's pretty small and it works really well, only had it since Xmas though so can't really comment very much as haven't used it for long.
It's really easy to use, but don't ask me to comment on video quality, etc, as I'm really not an expert on that sort of thing! It's definitely about a million times better than the one on our old little camera but that's not saying much!

It's simplicity is what appeals but would love to hear from anyone who has found any problems or are they just altogether fab?

We've got one and love it - so simple my 8 year old and 5 year old can use it too.

I have one, I like it, the only downside really is that the controls are a bit fiddly, wearing gloves I can't operate the on/off button or the zoom. A minor niggle though really.

DD got one for CHristmas (Flip Mino HD)and we have the non HD ones at school.

They are great. Only down side is that the screen is quite small but the videos are very easily tranferred to a computer via the USB flip thingy (or you can use a cable) and the sound and picture quality is really good for such a small camera.

I don't think the controls are fiddly at all.

I have read similarly good reviews about the Flip Ultra which is a little bigger and a little cheaper.

Sounds great-dumb question alert.....

If I get the HD one, will it play back on a non HD tv?

I have the Mino HD and love it. I find it really good for taking photo stills from as the picture quality is great. It might not be as good on the non-HD though.

Its simplicity is both its strength and weakness though. I love that you don't need cables to connect to the computer, you don't need to remove the battery to charge it, there's no fiddling around with memory cards and you just switchit on and it's ready to go. On the other hand, you have to accept limited memory (1 or 2 hours) and you can't do any fancy camera trickery with it.

whooosh · 09/01/2010 16:48

Memory is not a major problem as long as I get the 2hr version and as for editing trickery-THANK GOD it isn't possible as I am completely inept at anything like that!

Do you all use "normal" batteries or buy recharchgeable ones?

OP posts:
Cybils · 09/01/2010 19:52

we use normal but it does tend to eat them up a bit

bran · 09/01/2010 20:14

Umm, mine doesn't use batteries. It has an interal rechargeable one, I just plug it into my laptop and it charges up. It seems to last for quite a while.

mummyofexcitedprincesses · 09/01/2010 20:22

I use mine to shoot little film clips of the girls from Grandma who lives abroad, it is fab!

mummyofexcitedprincesses · 09/01/2010 20:23

for not from lol

whooosh · 09/01/2010 21:31

Well I think I am "sold" on them. Will limit my filming of boring stuff if I know there is a limit, which when we get back will make for more interesting viewing
