AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 15/12/2009 22:11

Great. The percentage is high in my favour. Other than Mrs Morgan who is spoiling it completely

I googled prior to starting this thread and found a site where the vast majority were for singing after the candle blowing, which is my particular bugbear - hence this thread.

Is it a nationality thang do ya thunk?

After, of course.

I vividly remember the birthday training I did with my PFB leading up to his first birthday.
I kept a candle in the kitchen drawer. I'd light it, then sing, then blow out the candle, and clap, so he knew what to do when the big day arrived. How proud I was when he spat on blew out the candle right on cue!

After.

The Bringing In Of The Cake is usually accompanied by the song and then the candles are blown out.

After. Definitely.

After, definitely.

after, the cake is normally travelling across the room towards the birthday boy/girl whilst singing goes on!

I have now realised I completely confused my own issue by misreading all the responses until now. It may have been something to do with that little glass of wine that may have passed my lips last night

Reason I asked the question is that it was DS's birthday yesterday and DP was waiting for the song to be sung before the blowing and I was waiting for the blowing to sing the song. Lead to quite an uncomfortable silence, I can tell you!

Obviously it is just my side of the family that is odd. (Where's the festive biscuit face??) Looks like I might have to change the habit of a lifetime!!

Thanks everyone

dearprudence - you trained your PFB in birthday cake etiquette. Sorry - but

dearprudence · 16/12/2009 21:29

Yep. Trained him. I know, it's hilarious.

you always blow them out after you sing

RookieMommy · 16/12/2009 21:46

After, ALWAYS after. You sing as you bring the cake in, let the wax drip on the cake a bit for extra flavour, then blow the candles out.

winestein · 16/12/2009 22:08

You're just all making me feel like a social outcast now you know.

MY MOTHER HAS A LOT TO ANSWER FOR!!!
