Wachine Machine problem - diagnosis anyone?

I've checked the other thread and don't think this one is covered so hope someone can help. Washing machine is not moving to next stage of the cycle. Have to manually turn dial to 'rinse', 'spin' etc. Is this going to be herrendously expensive to repair? Anyone know what the problem might be so I can be forewarned before I contact an engineer? It's an Indes(h)it washer dryer by the way.

TIA

It could be the timer????????

is it making a noise?i had the same problem with mine followed by the noise and it was the drum,it was completely loose,we had a 5 year parts guaranty but had to pay £85 for engineer

Only makes a terrible noise when on spin cycle -has been doing that for a while. Timer sounds a possibilty.

it is the drum then, mine did that, dont use it or youll make it worse

When you have to turn it round yourself does it still have water in,i had this problem and mine had a blockage...a sock was stuck in the pipe. Good luck!

this happened to me this week with an 11 month old Bosch, wouldn't move to spin and made a noise. Was under guarantee so called engineer out, but it was the pipe taking waste water from washing machine to waste pipe under sink that was blocked with horrid gunky fluff and dog hair!! Was charged £60 to unblock it as it wasn't the washing machine that had broken. I would urge you to check this pipe before calling an engineer as you can easily disconnect it and clear it yourself. Hope this helps

dino55 - it still works ok when I turn the dial so don't think there is a blockage and MimsMum - it is still spinning just making a racket when it does so. Aaargh, hate things breaking down

If it does the right thing when you do turn it, it sounds like the switch (or timer, whatever).

Shouldn't be too expensive I don't think - just the call-out charge and a new switchy thing.

Thanks jan. Sounds more reassuring.
