blocked drain..

The drain outside our house is overflowing and blocked It is the one right outside the door.I am not sure if we are covered for this on our insurance as the policy is so complicated to decipher!Is this something that is covered on home insurance as standard?northern rock are closed til monday so as rain has now stopped it should be ok til then We rushed to b&q and bought rods but it hasn't worked This has never happened before what do you think?

It may be that its a blockage in the sewer downstream & has backed up - in which case it could be your neighbours problem or the council.
Depends on where the drains run to / from.

This happened to us recently ( 6pm on christmas eve to be precise!) - call your local water authority and they will advise you and will clear it for you for free if it's their fault or charge you if it's your fault. They will send someone out and Thames Water told us it would be free for them to check what the problem was and then take it from there. Better than calling some plumber out and paying fortunes.

southern water only come oit for drains in the pavement this one is the one that is on our drive which the guttering flows into

Can you trace its path to see where it goes from your house?

it goes into the manhole which is also on our drive and is about 2 feet from the drain
