keepo refusing/declining purchases when you have more than enough money in the bank????

I am really really annoyed. they did this to me this morning. i had to pay for something first as it was a collection item and then pay for the two delivery items seperately. Except the delivery items I had to pay for payment was declined. So i had to apply for a bloody store card to pay for them because I have cut all my credit cards off (paid them off cut them up was free)

Then i crossed the road from this shop went in Asda and voila card is working again.

It happens regular that they decline my card and makes me look like a right prick. Once it was for a 17 quid bunch of flowers for my Grans birthday.

Its so annoy, how do i complain porperly

i am with lloyds and the only time they did this to me was when i spent lots of big amounts of money in a short space of time....then on my WEDDING DAY when i went to pay for the restuarant, the card was declined!!!!! The two days previous, i had paid for loads of wedding type things
it annoyed me at the time but in retorspect, at least they were on the ball...

Nowt to do with incredible memory - common thing in ATM fraud - set up a card reader to read the magnetic strip, and set up a camera to record the numbers typed in. Fairly simple and is why there are so many warnings not to use ATMs if they look tampered with...

Seeing as how there are criminals that can memorise whole card numbers and use them to order stuff with the telephone or online, then I don't think memorising a 4 digit number over someone's shoulder is that taxing for short term memory!!

I'm with Lloyds, have never had a problem with my card being refused, it happened once, and was on a spending spree, working for Barclaycard authorisations at the time, I understood
But I am livid with them at the moment! I cancelled my debit card a few weeks ago, to stop payments going from it that I couldn't cancel directly, and yesterday they have authorised a payment on my cancelled card!! It could have been stolen for all they knew, it had been cancelled almost three weeks previously and they still authorised the bl**dy payment! Grrrrrrrrrr

GeorginaA - like Ghosty says - we have eftpos here and the kepads that you key your pin in - have side so unless someone is standing over you - itis protected. I use eftpos all the time. Like the idea that ghosty mentions - you can't overspend as it comes straight from your account. Found that vey bizarre when I moved to the uk that I had to sign for a debit card and it took days to come from my account.

Credit card/bankcard fraud is not the big deal it seems to be in the UK. There has been the odd ATM scam mentioned in the news like the ones you have mentioned. Good thing too - card is swiped right in front of you - or you swipe your own card and then pin in whatever. No way someone can take your card away and duplicate the info from the magnetic strip.

Ghosty - we get interest on what is our everyday account...and we pay limited transaction fees as we try to limit ( now) our eftpos.

Eftpos has been here for at least 20 years or so.

Hello Eidsvold ... if it has been in Aussie for 20 years then it has been here for ages too ... I only came across it when I moved here 3 years ago. I believe it has been in Europe (well, definitely Holland) for a while too ... about time the UK got 'with it'!!!!!!!!
Re. interest ... we need to have our money in an instant access interest account to get any interest ... but the ordinary current account has no interest ... weird but true ...

Eftpos been here over 10 years Ghosty. Not sure how long exactly.
