My dad is unable to work due to a serious heart conditions/high blood pressure/artheritius etc

My mum is really struggling without his wage and is worried she is going to lose her house. So they set up a little business making personalised wooden name/door plaques.

But it isn't really taking off. Probably due to lack of funds to advertise. I thought if they made up a few of the most popular boys and girls names and printed off some of their ebay feedback to prove they were genuine, they could get a stall at a car boot sale and sell from there.

Also what are the most popular names and is there anything else you can think of that they could do

can your mum get a more stable part time job rather than this? at least short term?

have they spoken to the mortgage lender etc?

can your dad make bigger things, esp as it is nearer Xmas, like wooden toys, doll houses? things like that?

not sure if it is feasible and if it will make enougb money soon enough to keep their heads above water

My works fulltime but my dads prescriptions plus debts they took on when he was working fulltime are too much for her wage alone.

He really is not well enough to work at all, but the doctor for the invalidity pay people disagrees because he can get on and off a bed unaided and he can make a cup of tea for himself. This means he is fit enough to work His own doctor and his specialist disagree and refuse to give him a fit for work note. He is appealing but it is a long drawn out process.

They just need something to top up my mums wage iyswim?

Wooden toys etc would be a great idea though. But would people buy them hand madew with no British Safety thingy?

the problem is that as he gets worse, they might not be able to fulfil orders and that would lose them all the goodwill they've built up.

have your mum and dad checked re free prescriptions or at least a pre payment certificate.. any benefits they can claim?

They have the prepayment certificate. They are not entitled to any other benefits because her wages are too high . They are in touch with CAB, who are helping them with the appeal and problems with credit insurers.

Nicklebang, My dad cuts the names out of the wood, sands them etc, my mum paints them and my sister puts them on ebay for them. It doesn't require much effort on his part and because it is work at home he can do it at his own pace and rest if gets tired. Most of it is done with power tools so it is not physically demanding.

Sorry to hear about your parents situation Shiny, have not much to offer as help but I just remembered that years ago when my daughter was little we bought a wooden name for her door, but it was as separate letters of the alphabet. Would this be possible for your dad to do? Then people can buy what they need to make their child's name, and you charge so much per letter.
