After the comment on the diffrfernet practices thread about tills especially for babies and kids (and fraught Mums)..
What would you like to change in supermakets to make it easier..
Mine would be igger trollies and people to pack for you ALL the time

No mention of grapes allowed..

You beat me to this one codswallop, I was going to start one asking the same!

I have to say I love the idea of a PG and child aisle.
We (Pregnant me, DS1 + 2) were in Sainsburys yesterday and there were signs everywhere saying 'We're opening more checkouts' and the whole time I was in there with my 2 monsters causing mayhem I didn't see a single one opened. Every checkout had a queue of people and there were at least 15 un-manned tills. It made my blood boil!

breeze · 28/05/2003 08:35

I think aisles should be one way, as DS tried to grab trolleys coming the other way.

EmmaTMG · 28/05/2003 08:41

Mind you if we have a PG/Child aisle, there will surely be a request for a Man with beer aisle

SoupDragon · 28/05/2003 08:44

Nooo - I hate it when the staff pack for me!!

A creche would be nice - like the Ikea ball pit.
Trolleys that steer properly - Sainsburys have a "wonky wheels" sticker system where you can tag cr*p trolleys yourself. Tescos take note!! From my limited experience, American trolleys steer really well.

M2T · 28/05/2003 09:00

I think they should make anti-static trolleys! My ds gets so many shocks in them that at one stage he just pointblanked refused to get in, which made shopping extremely difficult! And no wonder, coz these shocks hurt. DP only touches the trolley now with his hands up his sleeves and we now avoid touching ds whilst he is in there.
I put in a written complaint to Tesco and got a phone call from a very nice woman who basically said it must just be us coz they've never heard of that complaint before.

Is it just us?

EmmaTMG · 28/05/2003 09:06

Never had a static shock from trolly but we always get them when we use the old buggy in shops. It's kept in the car now so doesn't get used much, thankfully!

eefs · 28/05/2003 09:16

It must be just you M2T, never had a shock from a trolley myself either. it could be a special gift
I also hate when my bags get packed for me, but I also hate when I haven't finished packing and the next persons shoping is flying down on top of me, so another vote for more checkouts and a bit of patience please for emcumbered shoppers.
Trolleys:

  • Need to be a bit more comfortable for children, I need to bend my ds's legs all sorts of directions if I want to sit him in the trolley.
  • Cup holders in trolleys! So I can carry a calming cup of coffee (wine) around with me.
  • A little calculator attached to the trolley would be brilliant.

lot's of trolley ideas!

M2T · 28/05/2003 09:20

It must be Eefs!

The amount of shocks we all receive could power a small third world country!!

BearintheBigBlueHous · 28/05/2003 09:32

M2T, thank goodness it happens to someone else, I thought we were the strange ones. I think it's only in Tescos, but it's every time and every Tescos. DD doesn't seem to mind too much - just looks a little shocked(!), but it really gets on my nerves.

Katherine · 28/05/2003 09:49

Never had a shock from a trolley but often get them in the car. Its all down to the shoes you wear collecting static apparently. Maybe you should all shop in your wellies!

BTW Safeway did start having calculators on their trolleys for a while. You could just scan your shopping as you went round and go through a special till at the end. I thought it was a great idea but haven't seen any for ages. They must have had too many problems. Also a friend tells me that SOME Safeways do have creche!

I always send my 2 to play on the ride things at the checkout(what are they called) but never ever put money in. They still enjoy it and it keeps them busy while I pack but they've now moved it round a corner so I can't see them. A few more of these which don't require money would be great

SoupDragon · 28/05/2003 09:52

M2T/BITBBH it must be your electric personalities. I got loads of shocks somewher recently but I can't remember where it was... I think it was from our buggy.

M2T · 28/05/2003 09:54

BiBBH - Yes, it's only in Tesco and it's every Tesco I've been in so far. Weird??!!

Katherine - what shoes are best? I sometimes wear leather, sometimes my trainers.... doesn't seem to make a difference. Is rubber-soled best?

M2T · 28/05/2003 09:54

Must be, Soupie

SoupDragon · 28/05/2003 09:58

I thought rubber was best as it means you're not earthed.

SoupDragon · 28/05/2003 09:59

I think some synthetic soles would increase the static build up.

whymummy · 28/05/2003 10:19

better made trolleys,it just gets on my nerves those stupid wheels going in every direccion

Jimjams · 28/05/2003 10:38

Not with trolleys M2T but I got told the same when I tried to return my buggy to Mothercare. It was horrendous, everyone used to get shocks from it- I got to the stage where I was scared to touch lift buttons, and my Mum came back from town with her hair standing on end.

Double seats in trolleys at Sainsburys. They only have baby and toddler double trolleys. Not two toddler seats. So I can't go there when I have both boys with me.

KeepingMum · 28/05/2003 11:14

MT2, you need to carry around one of those 'grounding strips' that people used to hang from the back of their cars. Attach it to any trolley or buggy you use and you will be spared the shock. Do you think I can make some money selling them at the front of Tesco's.

Helenpad · 28/05/2003 11:22

Any of you tried tesco internet shopping - no queuing, wonky wheel trollies or electric shocks!!

SoupDragon · 28/05/2003 11:23

Yes, but you get cr*p substitutions, late deliveries, missing items and no refunds!

whymummy · 28/05/2003 11:25

i always get electric shocks, specially from lifts so i always ask my ds to press the buttons
ok i`ll go to worst mother ever now

I don't find it that bad soupdragon - I admitt I stopped using it a year ago for those reasons but have become a re-convert a couple of months ago - substitution policy much better now but they still use "new" drivers every week and they always get lost!!

M2T · 28/05/2003 11:44

Whymummy -

KeepingMum - LOL Fantastic idea though!

WideWebWitch · 28/05/2003 11:46

I know I shouldn't laugh but can't help it at the thought of all the electrically charged mumsnetters, especially Jimjmam's mum coming back from town with her hair standing on end...
