What do you read to your baby?

DS is almost 4 months and gets very excited when I read to him. I've got a couple of books with really nice simple, catchy stories and big bold pictures which are great.
I'd like to get some more as it gets dull reading hte same thing every day. Can anyone recommend something their baby has enjoyed. I don't live in the Uk so looking for suggestions to order from Amazon (or get one of my lovely family or friend in UK to send me as presents )

ooh ooh got given a book in a start reading pack at the gp its called bedtime for baby and its a 6 page or so board book that basically asked on each page 'where is babys...duck' for example and then theres a very sturdy flap t lift. i have the strongest 12 mth old and he's been loving this book since about 6 months and not managed to tear off a single flap!

dd's favourite as a tiny baby was peekaboo baby
dear zoo
mama mama/papa papa is also a firm favourite

I would recommend joining the local library as it will give you tons more variety to read and you won't have to buy the books to experiment with what you child likes.

Dear Zoo is an absolute favourite in our house. And 'Thats not my... Truck'
And 'Thats not my... Monster' Both of these books have lots of textures to feel and touch and are very popular.

DS liked the Amazing Baby books when he was very young (he is 10 months now), especially the little square ones which i could just pop in my bag and he could turn the thick card pages himself with a bit of help.

Wow! thanks for all the suggestions, keep them coming! I'm going to have a look on Amazon and see what I can find!

I love buying books as well, but spent a whole afternoon in the English bookshop here and only found one book I liked for ds! i'll have to look at the local library, but don't think they'll have much if anything in English. Dh reads to him in German.

Lizs - if you read this thread do you have any ideas where I can pick up English childrens books (second hand would be good).

dd (16 mnths) likes Mr Brown can Moo by Dr Suess. Not too much text and lots of noises. She also likes a very strange book called the Monster is Coming which I picked up in a charity shop and am beginning to regret as I hate it. Its like a very simple version of Im coming to get you by Tony Ross. Dd goes through stages of liking various books and has gone off anything with long text atm as she likes to turn pages and do things (noises, textures etc) so poor old Hairy Mcclary is in the dog house . She also likes Ladybird moves home. I dont know who its by but its great and she loves trying to push the ladybird through the holes to the next page. Our copy is in bits tho as she hasnt quite got the hang of it.

peepo is my very favourite book for babies. The same authors wrote each Peach Pear Plum which my nearly 4yo dd knows by heart.
I also love any touch and feel books, Usborne books do a nice range ?that?s not my (tractor, dinosaur, dolly, digger) which are nice and short.
Where the Wild Things are by Maurice Sendak is a classic. Maybe some of these suggestions may seem a bit long for a 4mo but you can always stop if they get fed up.
when my ds1 was about 6mo he loved a book called Demon Teddy, it?s a bit rude.
Try The Red House for cheap books, also libraries are a great source of good ideas and free of course. It was at library story time that I first heard The Gruffalo....
Ok readign through tht thread I see that most of my suggestions are already here! great minds!!
