just been reading the archived thread on Dishwashers... and thought i might try and resurrect...as it was started a while ago... plus wanted to ask...

Rhiannon... did you ever get a new one.???

plus... does everyone still recommend a Bosch... and if so what model???

plus... dh and i have this ongoing 'debate' he would like another slimline dishwasher (we have a slimline now) as they are easy fill... and thus puts the wash everynight just before we go to bed...me?

i think a full size... cos i basically think we'll be able to put more stuff in... e.g when friends come over for dinner etc... and basically want a family sized dishwasher...

what do you all think! - if it comes out on the full sized opinion... i shall print this thread off and shove it under his nose!!!! ha! ha!

...bearing in mind we have one dd (23months) at the mo and will eventually have more (when we get round to it! )

looking forward to the contributions on this lovely bank holiday monday morning... surely i should be in the garden and not being all nerdy on the computer....!!!!

Hi, Twink. Bad luck about the Zanussi. If your water meter question means that you have one, then you might be better off with a new d/w because (I think) the efficiency ratings measure water use as well as electricity.

However - not sure what is wrong with yours - the pump has 2 functions (or there are 2 pumps? one to drain and one to circulate???) (Can you tell I'm not an engineer???) Mine goes "sssssss" when it is filling and "grnggrnggrng" when it is draining and "chuggachugga" when it's washing. And I think when I turn it on there is an initial grng before it goes ssss. Does this help at all?

If you do decide to get a new one, must mention the Miele cutlery tray again - there was a Miele in our villa on holiday, and it was blissfully quiet, but I spent the whole week wondering why the cutlery basket only had 2 compartments - I didn't find the big flat tray in the top till the next-to-last day! It has little notches to hold individual bits of cutlery and they come out far cleaner than in the basket.

PS I have a full-sized basic Bosch. It washes OK but I always rinse things (tap or machine) before washing.

I had an indesit for ten tears and loved it and replaced it with another, middle of the range indesit and it has been complete pants from day one. Actually from day 29, one day after the shop would have replaced it.

Ten tears, Jasper? You must have really loved it then.

This is a subject dear to me atm, as we finally got a dishwasher on Wednesday after years of hankering after one. In order to fit it into our kitchen, we have had to turn the downstairs shower room into a untility room to put the washing machine in (only place in the kitchen a dishwasher would fit), and because we've got no shower upstairs now, we are having a new bathroom upstairs. Rather expensive way to avoid washing the dishes, I know, but worth it! So far, I love it! I went with the latest "Which" report, and bought a Whirlpool ADP7966 it's Triple "A" rated, and is very quiet (they actually recommended the ADP5966, but that's been discontinued, and this is the replacement). So far, it has got everything lovely and clean, and dd1 is very keen to help me load it - so I can see a job that's beckoning for her!
Everyone I know who has one has been urging me to get one for years, and I'm now going to be one of those evangelists, too!

I've had a Zanussi for a couple of years, but can't say I'm that please about it...It's ok, but it's got like a balck spot,a corner where it doesn't wash properly, so whatever I put in there needs to be washed again....

Size wise, definitely get full size: there's 3 of us with dd being 2 and it's on almost everyday, after breakfast, lunch and dinner and dd's various beakers and my mugs, it takes nothing to fill it!!!
