My twin boys are 4 and a half and I know theres quite a few more mumsnetters with twins ( can't remember names though ). How are you doing? I have vague memories of 4 months old being quite a tricky stage due to them being really hungry and not settling well in the evenings.

kkgirl · 25/05/2003 21:23

I did try to leave a message but it doesn't seem to have worked.
I have twins of nearly seven a boy and a girl like you. It seems so long ago since they were babies, I have nearly forgotten what it was like. It was hard work and still is but different types of things to deal with. Mine are quite different in personality.
One thing I do remember was that my ds was very hungry and my dd always waited quietly for him to have his milk when they were very tiny and then had hers. I couldn't feed them myself as there was no milk at all!
Good luck and hope it is going well for you.
There is a topic for multiples on here as well which my help you to find someone else with younger twins. Do you belong to a twins group at all. I joined one and am still in one, I found it essential as I have no family close to support us.

karenfev · 25/05/2003 21:34

thank you for your replies
holly and james are absolute angels, i can quite happily boast that they have been sleeping right through the night for about a month and they are very happy and content babies. they were very much wanted and anticipated, they were quite collicky to start with but luckily they love the taste of infacol!
i havent been able to feed them myself but they are both doing well on formula but they are looking forward to trying real food! did anyone else feel that every mouthful they ate was scrutinised?
i am still wating to hear from my nearest twin club, but its not that near. i have joined the nct so i do get to see some adults.

Hi Karenfev,
I'm a Mum to 4yo twin boys.I found mine very hard work while they were young, but I was suffering from PND.I took a years unpayed mat.leave, and I now can't really remember much about the 1st year, it just seemed like one long year of routines.
Life is much easier now !!! Even though their still quite a handful, very boisterous, destructive, with inexhaustable amounts of energy, but their so gorgous and incredibly funny !! They now play endlessly together, inventing wonderful, imaginary games. It really is great to watch them growing up together !!!
You've got so much fun ahead of you !!! It really is something special having twins.

helenmc · 25/05/2003 21:56

hello Karen few ...my twins now 6 have just gone to bed - DH was in charge tonight whilst I potted up the busy lizzies in my heated and lit greenhouse. Do you play the game of count how many times in a day some-one says 'Ah twins - double the trouble'. But funnily it all stops when they get to about 18 mths.

Jac34 - didn't realise you'd twins ...doh!!!

karenfev · 25/05/2003 22:02

its so nice getting positive things said to me, i am really looking forward to everything!
my favourite game when im out is how many times i get asked if my boy and girl twins are identical...i can understand it with same sex but durrrrr! and yes helenmc it does get a bit wearing when the 20th person says ah twins-double the trouble! i have holly on my lap at the moment gazing at me with absolute adoration...arnt babies wonderful!

Or how about "you've got your hands full" or ( and I thought this a bit too much ) " bookends". I do think it's nice that they get so much attention from total strangers though- I don't know if it's just coincidence but my boys are really friendly and chatty to all and sundry.

karenfev · 25/05/2003 23:55

that is another favourite!

Hi karenfev- welcome to mumsnet and many congats on Holly and James. Sounds like you're enjoying them. Like josiejump and jac34, I have 4yo twin boys. 4 months seems like a distant memory, though a surprisingly good one! Maybe I have blocked out the agony of all the hard bits. Are you getting much help from family, friends, partner if you've got one?

karenfev · 26/05/2003 10:05

hi scummymummy
i do get help from my mum as and when she can manage but she lives 2 hours away and works full time. but i am coping just. any handy hints?

OP posts:
helenmc · 26/05/2003 10:24

Hints - get a tumble drier, tesco on-line shopping and stairs gates for when they start moving. You do get more help from strangers tho = I remember Boots had a fantastic bargain on nappies and I bought 4 huge packs to find I couldn't carry them and push the buggy, and some total stranger helped me the whole way to the car park. Moments like that make up for the ' and i bet they are hard work'.

Tortington · 26/05/2003 11:21

i have 10 year old twins boy and girl - so i will be like your mother in law - really annoying becuase i have been there and done that!

we recently found out my daughter was partially deaf - and now she has to see a consultant becuase of a hip problem ( it never ends)

anyway - nappies - wow! cost a bloody fortune and you have to change about 10 a day!

i remember having to steralize and make up 18 bottles of feed at night
feed and nappies all the time!

if ever you want a rant mumsnet is a fab place

josiejump · 26/05/2003 22:26

Childproof one room at least, put a stairgate over the door and then you're free to have a shower, make a cup of tea or whatever. If you haven't already got one, I remember my Graco baby swing being a godsend for those moments when I needed my hands free to do something, and would recommend that you beg or borrow one if poss.

helenmc · 27/05/2003 12:29

josiejump - i forgot about the graco swing - we had a battery one, and I remember waking up at 2am finding one poor baby swinging away

Min · 27/05/2003 15:40

Hi karenfev. I've also got boy/girl twins who are now 15 months. We're at the moving around and climbing onto everything in sight stage, although they aren't walking yet. At the beginning of solids I found it easier to stagger their meal times if I was on my own as I couldn't feed them both quick enough to satisfy their huge appetites! I've found that things definitely gets easier and better and better the older they get. It's wonderful once they start to notice each other - they get so much fun out of being twins.

throckenholt · 28/05/2003 05:49

Hi,

I have identical twin boys about the same age as yours (born mid January). Mine are almost sleeping through - they make it til about 5am.

They are becoming much more interactive now, and my toddler is not trying to sit on them so often - it is amazing how the challenges change so quickly. It seems ages ago that we were getting up every couple of hours to them !

Have you looked at www.twinsclub.co.uk ?

Julie

karenfev · 28/05/2003 08:47
