Best legal download site?

I'm a downloading novice but have recently started to download a few tunes via Limewire. Got a bit scared by a feature on the news this evening about a woman who has been hit with a bill for £2500 after her son used her computer to download mp3 files.

My question is, which is the best LEGAL download site? I don't want any "young people's" music- I'm primarily interested in oldies and making compilations of children's music for dd to listen to in the car- any recommendations?

I know a few people who swear by winmx but when I downloaded it I started getting popups again! Now I download na-da! (and its why I'm not doing msn!)

SG - ds2 downloaded Kazaa - had months of fun and then - KA-BOOM!!!!!!!!!!!

PC had to go to hospital

Does kazaa have viruses or something?

Newbarnsleygirl · 08/06/2005 21:21

Me thinking soulseek was ok.

Yup - its like opening up the floodgates

my pc had viruses, dodgy popups, annoying popups everything worked at a snails pace - it was horrendous!

JT - thinking about it, I seem to remember we have discussed the (ahem) merits of kazaa before.

GLF - if you have only downloaded 100(ish) over a year I wouldn't worry. The people getting prosecuted are paying compensation of about £2000 - at pennies per track that is a lot of downloading!
