This guy just came around from 'Eastern Electric'. He had a badge and a Eastern electric jacket on. He started giving me all this flannel about I had been identified as a premier customer, blah blah, he could now put me on an excellent tarrif.

I said "I am not with you, I am with Powergen", he says "I wont change your company just tarrif" then goes on and on trying to blind me with science and really pushy. I told him I didnt want to change suppliers and he said this little classic
"you wont change companies, you will just be a different logo on your bills!!"

He must have thought I was a muppet!! Anyway I told him to come back when dh was home later. In the meantime I phoned my gas company to ask them - and they said he definantly wants to change you we dont work with Eastern elecric they are another company"

Anyway - I went out just now and he was on my street and I said to him "I am sorry but I have spoken to DH and we dont want to change suppliers" and he had a right go at me! Saying we wouldnt be and it was just a different logo, he was really shouting at me! So I said I was going to phone his company up and he started haveing a go saying that I had it all wrong and I didnt know what I was talking about and started giving me a lecture about how gas comes down pipes!!!

I feel really cheesed off and think I am going to complain. I know it sounds silly, but he wasx quite threatening. Excuse any spelling errors I am cheesed off!

we get calls at home but at work too.......a company phoned the other day trying to sell us advertising space and foolishly didn't withold their number.

dp has phoned them every day trying to sell them flowers!!!!! it has totally confused them!

i kept getting phone calls about cheaper phone tarrifs, and one got really nasty with me when i kept telling him i didn't give out financial information over the phone. he hung up when i told him if it was legitimate he wouldn't expect me to give out that info...........

We've joined the Telephone Preference Service and the one for junk mail too and it works brilliantly with cold callers on the phone.

You can join on line and it should stop all unwanted cold calls within a couple of months once the info filters down into these companies' mucky paws. Unfortunately you still get those recorded messages from outside the UK - "click...Hi I'm Ruby and..." but every other company is no longer allowed to call you.

When I've been called since joining up I can ask them smugly where they got my number from and did they realise I was a member of the Telephone PS and the profuse apologies I get are hilarious. tHese call centres know fine well they now legally shouldn't be phoning my number but they try anyway - then they can't hang up fast enough!! It's very satisfying

The website is here: Telephone Preference Service

Pretty much enjoyed your exchange but definitely pmsl at your pay off line 'and so it went on until I put her out of her misery and hung up. Of course if I'd been pre-menstrual I would have ripped her head off down the phone line.'

Actually, will be pmsl for sometime about that!

WE had one of these yesterday from Southern Electricity. Unfortunetly he caught me when I had sever PMT. DH answered the door and I heard the words "Southern Electricity" so I came down to say we'd changed to Scottish power. He started all this different logo rubbish, so I repeated that we weren't interested. He said "not trying to push my luck here but" to which I told him he had most definitely pushed his luck and slammed the door in his face. I have to say, it was very therapeutic. And I have called Southern Electricity and have been put on their "no call" list, so I shouldn't have to do it again in the future.

When we moved to our new house we had letters from NPower saying that we were contractually obliged to use them as the last tenants had been with them. Load of baloney.
I phoned them and told them it was rubbish and he said the landlord had put it in our lease that we had to use them. Well, I said, I actually READ my lease before I signed it and I have a copy here of it and there's nothing on it about NPower, plus, as a consumer, it's MY choice who I use.
Still tried to flannel us and even sent a couple of "bills" - where the amount to pay was £0:00! Finally phoned again and at first pretended to be all sweetness and light until I got the operators name - and then said that if I heard from them again I would be complaining in the strongest terms to the ombudsman and seeking compensation for harassment and basically lying to gain custom.
We haven't heard anything since....

Last time dp gt one of these people pestering him he turned round and said 'sorry we have solar power so we dont get any bills'. Threw the guy completely and I was PMSL when he told me.

These energy people are appalling. Last year they were turning up on the doorstep almost weekly and they were incredibly patronising and hard sell. We complained to energywatch and got effusive apologies from the companies involved. That lasted for a year and now they are pestering us again.

Although, one came round last week and my normally very laid back dh flipped. It was hysterically funny. The salesman was a huge bloke and was physically backing away from dh in fear!

TPS is excellent though, really recommend it.
