No football in our house. Dh doesn't like it and we don't watch telly anyway. However, ds shows signs of loving football. Who's going to take him to matches? Me, I expect, dh works at weekends!

Nutjob · 22/05/2003 21:13

Hi XAuststed, cor you lucky thing, how wonderful it must be to live a football free existance!! Dh is trying desperately to get ds into it, but at the moment I think ds is just humouring him!!

My dad is sport mad. I probably married dh to escape from it!! Actually, it might be good if ds gets into sport as he's full of energy and very "physical". Might take his mind off fighting.

Strangely enough, it is my dd who is the more aggressive of my two children, I think it all stems from her lack of stature!!

Dp laid on sofa, can in one hand, remote in the other, keeps coming out with comments on how they are playing...like I care?

whymummy · 22/05/2003 21:20

i love football but only watch international games

Nutjob · 22/05/2003 21:21

Know how you feel. I can kinda get into competitive games, but friendlies, who cares!!

I think league football would be more interesting if players had to come from the town/city they play for, ie only people from Manchester play for Man U. As it is, only the richest teams do really well because they can afford the best players. It all boils down to money which makes it really unattractive to me.

Nutjob · 22/05/2003 21:27

I enjoy going to see my local team play, much better actually going to the ground than sitting in front of the tv, but now they are in the Premiership it is not so easy to get tickets. My biggest gripe is 'glory boys' (or girls of course) who support a team that is nowhere near them simply because they are doing well. Liek that guy who supports Arsenel in the Fast Show.

I've only been to one football match. That was at Wembley about a hundred years ago to watch a league play off between Sunderland and Swindon. (Went with some friends from Sunderland.) Trouble was I didn't know the words to any of the songs the supporters were singing. Felt a bit left out!

whymummy · 22/05/2003 21:32

xausted my dh supports sunderland and i`ve bee to many matches love the atmosphere although nearly got killed once by chelsea supporters

Nutjob · 22/05/2003 21:35

Dh took me to my first football match, back when he was 'dp'. It was great I had a pie, had a pint and saw a fight!!! Seriously though, I really enjoyed it, and have even been known to freeze my butt off on Boxing Day morning with a hip flask that I sneaked in full of whisky!!

All I remember is something about "gannin along the Roker Road" and "Haway the lads!".

XAusted · 22/05/2003 21:36

Anyone read "Fever Pitch" by Nick Hornby? It's a great insight into the mind of a footie fan.

Nutjob · 22/05/2003 21:39

My fave is (to the tune of Mull of Kintyre) 'Valley Floyd Road, the mist rolling in from the Thames, my desire, is always to be here at Valley Floyd Road'

No thanks, Nutjob, you can keep Keifer. Still on a football theme (sorry), have you seen Bend it Like Beckham? What about Jonathan Rhys-Meyers (the coach in the film) - he's luvverly. Seven years younger than me but I could do with a toy boy as dh is seven years older than me!!!

whymummy · 22/05/2003 21:50
