Does anyone else out there have a baby product they hate with a vengeance? I made the mistake of buying the Chicco Mamma high chair because it looked the business and I'd inherited a load of other Chicco bits and bobs that were great. Being a first time mum I didn't think about how easy it would be to clean. If I tell you that the tray alone has over 30 nooks and crannies for food to get into it will give you an idea of just how badly designed this item is. It is an absolute nightmare to keep clean - yesterday, after a lunch of tuna/rice salad, I ended up sticking it in the garden and turning the high pressure hose on it. Aside from the cleaning aspect it is also far too big for anyone under the age of 21. My son is fifteen months and above average height yet still has to have a booster seat in it. Plus the tray doesn't come in far enough so half his lunch ends up down his bib or on the floor. I hate it with every inch of my body and can only presume that it was designed by a mysognistic sadist for a laugh. I don't know if I can face another year of dealing with it and am seriously thinking of taking an axe to it, whacking it on the bonfire and buying a £10 one from Ikea instead. Any other suggestions for my pire of useless products?

I found sangenic nappy wrapper bin useful but only for 6 months until weaning was getting on to more complex stuff than fruit/veg purees and baby rice.

I have lent it to 2 other new mums who found it useful for the same length of time and it's now in the garage ready for baby no 2's arrival in Sept.

I only paid £15 for it and wouldn't have considered it worth £30 which was the retail price at the time I bought it.

Agree with moondog re car window blinds. What you really need is blacked out "bad-boy" windows in the rear of the car and this still doesn't stop the sun from all directions. We resorted to a towel/blanket trapped in the window and draped in the required direction with changes as we changed direction whilst driving.

babyonboard · 31/03/2006 11:10

lol..re the question is putting humn poo in the bin illegl..ust googled and came across \link{http://www.thisislocallondon.co.uk/news/topstories/display.var.683395.0.bag_of_human_faeces_dumped_in_street.php\this} news story

lmao at the quote "I'm absolutely incensed," he said. "Everyone gets caught short from time to time but you have got to be responsible. There's no need for it. The driver should be ashamed of himself."

jamsam · 31/03/2006 11:32

im going to nominate those expensive and bulky baby chairs ( mainly mothercare, chicco, petit star etc) as they are essentially useless. I was given a gorgeous one for abay 1 but ended up buying a £5 wire and fabric one from a seond had shop which both babies loved as they could bounce and see everyone.
not only that but whip out the wire, wash the seat and stick it in a bag and it will last till the grandkids!.

mommie · 31/03/2006 12:01

completely useless wooden box/toy from Early Learning Centre where baby has to poke thru different shapes thru different shaped holes. It comes with a wooden lid that just lifts off (you can't fix it on) ...so my dd just takes the lid off and puts all the shapes in the box that way. what a stupid design and waste of a tenner.

moondog · 31/03/2006 13:39

lol at that story bob!
I can't believe that is actually the bag with the shit in it..look how close he is!
Wetting myself at mention of the van rocking form side to side!

fruitful · 31/03/2006 13:54

"illegal dumping on the highway" rofl!

spiker · 31/03/2006 15:31

Another vote for Persona (ds2). And cheap condoms (ds1)...

fullmoonfiend · 31/03/2006 20:19

Ok, not strictly a baby thing but Tomy Thomas Tank engine battery operated toy which 'scoops' up little balls of coal and deposits them somewhere else. Well, every year from age 12 months, some well-meaning relative bought one for my train mad boy. Unfortunately, it took me 2 hours each time to put together, then it never scooped properly, the little balls went everywhere and could not play with it in the same room as the baby as he would crawl over and put tiny balls up his nose/in his mouth etc. So after 2 or 3 goes, it 'broke' Wink. A week of tears and ds got over it. Until 6 months later, xmas and bugger me, we get given another one. And so it continued. However train mad you chap/chapess is, don not buy one - it will send you mad, Buy a nice wooden one instead!

flump30 · 31/03/2006 20:56

A top and tail bowl! And I can't even give it away now

Dragonhart · 31/03/2006 21:06

Nursing bras from mothercare. Rubbish support and when the flap is down, there is only a skinny bit of elastic to hold you up.
Also Quinny Speedi - rubbish!

traceyshep · 02/04/2006 16:47

The hippo vtech toy (it was a present) drove us round the bend. We cheered when the batteries ran out! Donated it to my best friend who replaced the batteries and now wishes she hadn't.
Bottle warmer - used it to start with but it was sooo slow!!
The spelling toy from Tescos - cheap but has a vvv irritating American voice!
The baby gym and playnest were really good though - dd used these for ages. We did use a sangenic for a while then reverted to nappy sacks. Don't buy the tesco value ones though - they smell really ughhhh!

Yokefleet · 03/04/2006 08:26

We have used the Tesco Value nappy sacks since birth of ds (6months ago) and have found them to be better then most and a lot cheaper. Morrisons had some scented ones that were awful

Normsnockers · 03/04/2006 10:51

Another cr@p Thomas the Tank Engine toy is the one that pops little plastic balls of smoke out of its funnel and the kids have to put them back in the cab to have them pop out again at the funnel end.

MIL bought this and it eats batteries and is very boring. ds will not miss it one iota when I found someone to unload it on. Can't even sell it on ebay as it weighs a ton and it would be the kiss of death to quote the postage for a prospective buyer.

Soggy1979 · 04/04/2006 22:13

Has anyone bought anything from two left feet? I wouldn't recommend it as a bought a travel system from them, tried to return it but never got any reply from the countless e-mails I sent them!

Yokefleet · 05/04/2006 08:25

SOGGY Thanks for that, we had book marked a page for a Britax car seat from them. We will look elsewhere now.
I'm too not a fan of Mothercare, when my ds was born we were bought a set of clothes that incluced a bib, sleepsuit etc. On the first wash the coloured wording on the sleepsuit ran and on the washing instrcutions for the bib it said to wash on the reverse!!! crap Angry will stick to Tesco's baby clothe range cheap and very cheerful

bamboozleslover · 13/07/2006 22:04

i like the sangenic nappy wrapper - the smell isn't too nice when you open it but it does keep the smell in until then, unlike the kitchen bin!
i love my top and tail bowl but do agree they are far to big!
we have a moses basket upstairs and a swinging crib downstairs. you don't very much need both but i love the fact i don't have to keep taking ds upstairs to put him to sleep. originally we were having a cot upstairs and the crib downstairs but we got given a moses basket after we had already bought it.

bamboozleslover · 13/07/2006 22:05

also got given a bottle warmer - never used it as ds has bottles from the fridge.

lunavix · 13/07/2006 22:06

A fabric highchair (well we were given it as a gift) absolutely waste of time washing the cover every 5 minutes.

Sangenic nappy wrapper thingy - fair enough good bin, but the smell of the cartridges combined with the sickly breastmilk poo smell.... urgh.

a 3 in 1 stereliser - we only every used the steam function

finally - not a baby product though - a flash power mop. Utter rubbish!

lorina · 14/07/2006 09:11

A few people have said baby baths are a waste of time but dont throw them away. If you have a BBQ or summer party fill them up with ice and stick the drinks in it !

nappyaddict · 01/11/2006 04:20

baby bath support - just used my hands!

baby bath - just used adult bath

baby sling - just didn't look comfortable for baby and definitely wasn't for me. we got an ergo infant carrier instead .. here

baby swing - shouldn't use for long periods of time due to pressure on spine. was a big item to only be able to use for 20 minutes a day!!

baby bouncer chair (the one with the wire legs) -someone bought me one but i wouldn't use it as i had heard it is bad for babys to bounce a lot. something to do with arching their back and overextending their muscles. i bought the kind that don't actually bounce instead and also reclined as i don't believe it is good for newborns to be upright all the time.

door bouncers, baby walkers, exersaucers - my baby is too young for these but definitely won't waste the money. they aren't good for babies and take up far too much room!!

things i'm glad i did buy - a lie back car seat, a rocking moses basket, a swinging crib. thought i'd mention this as a lot of people say they aren't in moses baskets and cribs very long but i found the moses basket really useful downstairs in the first few months when he didn't have set nap times etc so i could just put him down to sleep in the same room as me, and the swining crib cos we couldn't fit a big cot in my room for the first 6 months.

nappyaddict · 01/11/2006 04:22

oh and a cot bumper. the baby kept pulling it away from the side of the cot and getting caught up in it!!

nappyaddict · 01/11/2006 05:00

one thing i didn't mention that ds loves is his play gym from mamas and papas. it converts from a play mat into a play nest its the boat one. i wish i could fit in it some times!

suzywong · 01/11/2006 05:21

This amazing foldable, portable, fits any seat highchair.

ergo, a piece of poly cotton that you tied on to the back of a chair which went up between the kid's legs and tied like an apron to the back of the chair. Fourteen bleeding notes for that! Fourteen Quid!!!!!!!!!.

Gullable first time parent or what?
