'older' mums wanted

Hi I am a mum of 3 and nearly 40. I am also doing a PhD studying the experiences of 'older' mothers. I would be really interested to hear from anyone who has had a baby after the age of 35 (having had a child/ children) previously. I would particularly like to focus on women who had children/ a child early and then had a 'big' gap and went on to have another child/children after the age of 35. I would love to hear from anyone who feels that any of this is relevant to them - it would really help to get my research moving.

Also if anyone else is studying with young children - please let me know how to manage it - I am struggling!

Thanks guys - look forward to hearing from you.

I am really interested in the comments people made about 'same father' elvislives and ellceeel. Obviously assuming not - rather rude! It would be great if you could share your stories about your lives and how you came to have another baby as an 'older' mum. Thanks so much guys - it's all really useful and fascinating.

Hi everyone,

I had my ds at 39 and dd at 41.

I studied last year, nothing as major as a phd, AS Level French at evening class, studied while dd was at pre-school (I am 46 now).

I had my dc late because I didn't meet a suitable dad until later on.

We were on the verge of deciding not to bother when I was about 38, but I had a sinking feeling at not having children, so we went ahead.

Hi Rachel
I haven't received a CAT from you so I'll probably email you later. Before I do, can you just confirm that anything we tell you will only be quoted anonymously in your research and that you are not a journalist getting help for an article?
Thanks
(Sorry for the paranoia.)

ellceeell,
hi. not a journalist. just a student doing some preliminary research. just wanted to work out if women were in this situation as I wasn't sure. at stage where just getting ideas, so not quoting anything.

I have enough input for the time being, so will start a new thread in future once I am clearer about what i am doing.

thanks for all your help
Rachel

Dear Everyone,

thanks for all your input. I've got some good ideas and now I need to plan the project in more detail. I don't need any further info at this stage, but will post another thread in future when i've got a bit further with it all.

Rachel

Hi

I had DS1 at the age of 27. I've just had DS2 (6 months) at the age of 36. This looks like a small gap compared to other posters!

9 year gap due to fertility issues. Lots of people assume they have different dads due to the gap.

I have studied for professional post grad qualifications since DS1 was about 2 years old on and off. Was about to start another course when I found out I was pregnant with DS2 so have shelved it.

Interesting to see that your research might be used to inform NHS practice. I had an independent midwife for my second DS birth as I'd found the birth of DS1 quite traumatic. When I went for my 20week appointment at the hospital the SHO laughed at me when I asked if I'd have 1-2-1 care from a midwife. I'd had eight long years to ponder how I'd do it differently!

my email is undomesticatedgoddess at yahoo dot com if you want to contact me in the future but I don't often check it.

If you want to email me on that and I'l then give you a different address.
