Grey Water Recycling?

I asked about solar heating earlier this evening - I just thought I'd ask if anyone did Grey Water Recycling?

And did it work?

no, but it's part of my plan for when we build our own house (in about 50 years time at this rate).

dh has a family friend who specialises in fitting reed bed systems for it - as long as its set up right it works, he says. I think you need quite a bit of space for those though.

i'm hoping to put a tank under the drive and wouldlike to do it after the solar panels

Oh right - no filtering and stuff then. I was looking at using the water for irrigation.

Don't see why that wouldn't work, though you might have to be careful about what detergents/loo cleaners you use (coz some interact)

I have a good book on this somewhere, from the alternative technology centre in wales....can't remember the title tho, and I know its in the loft! sorry girls.....don't recycle it where we are at the mo, but do intend to, once we move to somewhere more rural, gona do the whole green thing if I get my way! (can hear dh cringing as I type!)

Thats what I thought - the filters are really great and only need cleaning about once a year.

It uses bath & sink water along with washing machine water (I think) - but I don't know about dishwasher or kitchen sink water

But as over half of water used is for flushing the loo you could save half of your water rates (on a meter) & sewarage (I hope)

It also collects rain water to top up the tank
